SMHA congratulates all 92 players selected in the 2024 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Draft on June 11, 2024.  Special congratulations to the 31 SMHA players selected! 

31 draft selections is a record total for SMHA in the SJHL Draft!  The previous high was 26 players in the 2022 draft.

The 12 SJHL teams had a two-round draft (24 picks) for 2009 birth year players and then a six-round draft (72 picks) for 2008 players coming off their first season of U18 hockey.  In total, 92 players were drafted (four teams passed on picks in the latter rounds).

Six SMHA 2009 birth year players were selected in the two-round 09 Draft, led by Tyson Medernach who was selected 3rd overall by the Yorkton Terrier.

25 SMHA 2008 birth year players were selected in the six-round 08 draft, led by Jeremy Wehrens who was selected 4th overall by the Nipawin Hawks.

In total, SMHA had 31 of the 92 picks in the draft or 34% of the players selected.  Great work by the 2008 and 2009 SMHA players and their families!

For those players not selected, continued hard work will make you a valuable free agent list player for any of the 12 SJHL teams.
