SMHA does not permit players to possess on their person or to use E-cigarettes or vaping equipment while the player is involved in any sanctioned team, zone, or SMHA event.  This includes pre and post-event while attending the sanctioned event.

Further:
  • It is illegal in Saskatchewan for those under the age of 18 to purchase or use vaping devices or e-cigarettes.
  • A City of Saskatoon by-law is in place stating that vaping is not permitted in any public places – including all parts of hockey arenas.  Vaping is treated like smoking – if smoking is not permitted then vaping is not either.

First Offense:
  • Any player caught vaping or with vaping equipment on their person while attending a sanctioned team, zone or SMHA event will be sent home without participating in the event.  The parent(s) or legal guardians of the player will be made aware of the situation by team management, Zone Executive or SMHA, depending on the type of event.
Second Offense:
  • Any player caught vaping or with vaping equipment on their person a second time while attending a sanctioned team, zone or SMHA event will face the following ramifications:
  1. Player will be sent home without participating in the event and his/her parent(s) or legal guardians will be made aware of the situation by team management, Zone Executive or SMHA, depending on the type of event.
  2. Player will be suspended for two games;
  3. The team may be required to have a presentation by the Know the Score Committee
Third Offense:
  • Any player caught vaping or with vaping equipment on their person a third time while attending a sanctioned team, zone or SMHA event will face the following ramifications:
  1. Player will be sent home without participating in the event and his/her parent(s) or legal guardians will be made aware of the situation by team management, Zone Executive or SMHA, depending on the type of event.
  2. Player will be suspended indefinitely and will have to attend a SMHA discipline committee hearing and also meet with a Sask Health Addictions Counsellor appointed by SMHA with his or her parent(s) or legal guardians.
