Warman Minor Hockey is excited to announce that the U15A team, currently part of the Saskatoon Minor Hockey Citywide A Division, will be rebranded as the U15 Warman Wolverines starting the 2025-26 season.
Saskatoon Minor Hockey (SMHA) and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) have been working collaboratively to support Saskatoon U15A minor hockey players for the last three seasons, with SMHA using the names and colour schemes from eight Saskatchewan Junior teams:
- Battlefords North Stars
- Flin Flon Bombers
- La Ronge Ice Wolves
- Kindersley Klippers
- Melfort Mustangs
- Melville Millionaires
- Nipawin Hawks
- Yorkton Terriers
- Warman Wolverines (*New!)
“Our partnership with SMHA’s U15A teams has been a tremendous success,” said SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre.
The partnership gives the minor hockey players a league to aspire to play in and team role models to aspire to play like.” The partnership is a win-win, offering numerous on- and off-ice opportunities for the big team and young team to interact. It is not only exciting to have Warman join the SJHL this fall, it is awesome to have the Warman U15As become part of the SJHL family.”
With the Warman Wolverines joining the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League this fall through the relocation of the Notre Dame Hounds, a ninth U15A team will be added to the mix.
“Having the U15 team in town wearing the Wolverines jersey is huge for the community,” added Warman Wolverines Junior A head coach and general manager Brett Pilkington.
“It allows for the young players to dream about wearing the actual jersey one day and staying at home to play junior A hockey. Our players will be heavily involved with this team and other youth teams in the community.”
Excitement in the Warman area for the SJHL Wolverines, as well as for the renaming of the U15A club, is very high.
“It's an exciting time to be part of the hockey scene in Warman with the addition of the Wolverines and the opening of the new arena,” said Rob Obrigewitch the Director of Hockey Operations of the Warman Minor Hockey Association.
“Establishing a working relationship with the Wolverines was a top priority for us this offseason, and we're grateful for the chance to make this our first joint initiative. The U15A home opener will be a proud moment for both organizations, and it'll be fantastic having the Wolverines physically present to see the impact they have with the players on this team.”
“The SMHA is grateful to the SJHL for partnering with us on what has been a terrific initiative for all involved,” said Saskatchewan Minor Hockey Association executive director Kelly Boes.
“The players and families make a special team when they are drafted to a U15A Citywide team bearing the name of a SJHL franchise. SMHA is pleased to have the Warman Wolverines become the 9th SJHL namesake team in our U15A league. Best of luck in 2025/26 to the SJHL Wolverines and to the U15A Wolverines!”
This partnership will run through to the 2031-32 season.
