Coaching Standards

Weyburn Soccer is committed to delivering high-quality, player-centred coaching that aligns with the standards and best practices set by the Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) and Canada Soccer. Our coaching standards ensure that players at every age and stage are supported in safe, positive, and developmentally appropriate environments.

All coaches within Weyburn Soccer follow a development-first philosophy, prioritizing learning, enjoyment, and long-term player development over short-term results.

Alignment with SSA & Canada Soccer

Weyburn Soccer programs are designed in accordance with:

  • Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) framework

  • Canada Soccer Grassroots Standards

  • SSA coaching education and Safe Sport requirements

These standards guide:

  • Age-appropriate training formats and session lengths

  • Training frequency and competition structures

  • Coaching behaviours and expectations

  • Player safety and well-being

Coach Education & Certification

All coaches are required to complete coach education appropriate to the age group they coach, as mandated by SSA and Canada Soccer. This ensures coaches understand:

  • How children and youth learn and develop

  • Safe and effective coaching practices

  • Game-based and player-centred training methods

  • Ethical and professional coaching behaviour

Coaches are supported and guided through their education pathway by the Weyburn Soccer Technical Director.

Safe Sport & Professional Conduct

All coaches and team officials must meet Safe Sport requirements, including:

  • Respect in Sport – Activity Leader

  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks (as required)

  • Adherence to Weyburn Soccer’s Code of Conduct and Safe Sport policies

  • Commitment to respectful, inclusive, and professional behaviour

These measures ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.

Our Coaching Philosophy

At Weyburn Soccer, coaches are expected to:

  • Create positive, inclusive, and respectful environments

  • Use game-based learning and guided discovery

  • Encourage creativity, decision-making, and confidence

  • Support all four corners of development: technical, physical, psychological, and social

  • Model sportsmanship and integrity on and off the field

Ongoing Support & Accountability

Weyburn Soccer provides ongoing support, mentorship, and resources to help coaches grow and succeed. Coaching standards are reviewed regularly, and feedback is used to maintain a high-quality experience for players and families.

Strong coaching standards protect players, support development, and create a positive soccer culture.
