Referees – An Essential Part of the Game

Referees play a critical role in soccer. They ensure games are safe, fair, and enjoyable for everyone involved. Without referees, games cannot take place.

At Weyburn Soccer, referees are more than officials — they are leaders and educators who help players learn the Laws of the Game, understand respect, and experience fair play.

Why We Need Referees

Referees are essential to:

  • Keeping players safe by enforcing the Laws of the Game

  • Ensuring matches are fair and respectful

  • Supporting positive learning environments

  • Allowing leagues, festivals, and game days to operate smoothly

As participation continues to grow, so does the need for local referees. Strong referee participation helps reduce game cancellations and strengthens our soccer community.
