2026 Weyburn Junior Cougars Skills Academy & Development Program

Junior Cougars x Weyburn Soccer

Weyburn Soccer is proud to partner with the University of Regina Cougars Soccer program to bring an exciting new opportunity to our community in 2026 — the Weyburn Junior Cougars Skills Academy & Development Program.

This isn’t just another camp.
This is about raising the standard of soccer development in Weyburn — for every level of player.

Skills Academy (Ages 4–10)

Fun. Foundations. Confidence.

The Junior Cougars Skills Academy is designed for boys and girls who simply love to play.

Whether your child is brand new to soccer or already playing regularly, this program focuses on:

  • Building strong technical foundations

  • Developing physical literacy and coordination

  • Learning through small-sided games

  • Gaining confidence on the ball

  • Having fun in a high-energy environment

Players are grouped by age and ability, ensuring everyone is challenged appropriately and feels successful.

At this stage, development is about creating a love for the game while building real skills that last. The Cougars coaching staff bring professional energy and university-level standards in a way that is engaging and age-appropriate.

This is where future players are built — but more importantly, where confident kids are developed.

Development Program (Ages 8–17)

Training Like a Varsity Player

For players who want more.

The Junior Cougars Development Program is ideal for passionate club players looking to understand what it takes to train and perform at the varsity level.

This program includes:

  • Turf training sessions led by U of R coaches and players

  • Classroom sessions covering:

    • Nutrition

    • Student-athlete life

    • Leadership

    • Mental preparation

    • Goal setting

    • Tactical analysis

  • Training built around the U of R “4 Moments of the Game” framework

This is a rare opportunity for Weyburn athletes to experience the standards, expectations, and environment of university soccer — right here in our community.

It bridges the gap between grassroots soccer and high-performance environments.

Why This Program Matters

This partnership brings several key benefits to Weyburn Soccer families:

1. Exposure to Higher Standards

Players see firsthand what university-level preparation looks like — not just on the field, but off it.

2. Development for All Abilities

This is not an exclusive program.
It is built to challenge players at their level while inspiring them to reach the next one.

Beginners gain confidence.
Competitive players gain structure.
High-level athletes gain insight into their future pathway.

3. Role Models in Front of Our Players

Training alongside U of R coaches and student-athletes allows young players to see what is possible. Representation matters. Exposure matters.

4. Building a Stronger Weyburn Soccer Culture

When we raise the standard across the board, everyone benefits — community players, competitive players, and future Forge athletes alike.
