Player Code of Conduct

Fort Saskatchewan Soccer – Player Code of Conduct

Being a soccer player with Fort Saskatchewan Soccer (FSS) is an exciting opportunity to grow, compete, and have fun. It also comes with responsibilities — to yourself, your teammates, coaches, referees, and the broader soccer community. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all FSS players.

1. Represent Yourself and FSS with Integrity

  • Always do your best. Your effort and attitude reflect on you, your team, your coach, and the entire FSS community.
  • Show respect in your actions — on and off the field.

2. Zero Tolerance for Drugs & Alcohol

  • The use of drugs or alcohol before or during practices or games is strictly prohibited.
  • If a coach suspects a player is under the influence:
    • The player will be removed from the field.
    • A parent/guardian will be contacted.
    • A meeting will be scheduled with the player, parent/guardian, coach, and an FSS Executive Member before the player can return.
    • If no resolution is reached, further disciplinary action may be taken.

*Intoxicated players pose a serious risk to themselves and others.

3. Practice Good Sportsmanship

  • Play hard and fair.
  • Compete with strength and heart, but show compassion in both victory and defeat.
  • Strive to win — but understand that true winning is doing your best with integrity.

4. Show Respect At All Times

Respect must be shown toward:

  • People – referees, coaches, teammates, opponents, parents, spectators, and facility staff
  • Differences – bullying, hate speech, racial or gender-based comments will not be tolerated
  • Rules – including the rules of the game and their application by referees
  • Authority – disrespect toward coaches, assistants, or team managers will be investigated and addressed
  • Facilities – treat fields, locker rooms, and bathrooms with care
  • Policies – including those of FSS, EMSA, ASA, and FSMSA

*Violations may result in a formal meeting and/or disciplinary action.

5. Be a Team Player

  • Attend and fully participate in all practices and games
  • Work with your coaches to build individual and team skills
  • Support your teammates — success comes from working together, not going it alone

6. Prioritize Safety

  • Make sure your equipment fits and functions properly
  • Play in a way that protects the safety of yourself and others

7. Keep It in Perspective

  • Love the game and enjoy the experience
  • But always remember — it’s just a game

8. Accountability

Failure to follow the Player Code of Conduct or any FSS, league, district, or governing body rules may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to:

  • Loss of playing time
  • Suspension from team activities
  • Removal from the program

By following this Code of Conduct, players help create a positive, safe, and respectful environment for everyone in the FSS community.
