Welcome Back to WESA

THE CONTENTS OF THIS PAGE ARE IN DRAFT FORM

It’s great to have you with us! Whether you’re returning for another fun-filled season or joining WESA for the first time, this page covers everything you need to know to get started — from league structure and values to schedules, registration, and rule updates.

Please read this page carefully — it contains important information for all members.

The Basics

Divisional Play That Is Fair & Competitive

A strong league depends on putting the member experience first, while remembering we are a volunteer-run organization guided by inclusion and sportsmanship.

The Draft
Our three-division structure helps the league group like-skilled players into competitive and fair groups before the Draft.  No matter your skill level, we have a division that is right for you.

Buddys
WESA players have the option of pairing together as buddys for the season.  However, you both must have an assessed skill level that places you in the same division for this to work.  Keep reading for more.

SQ - Skills Questions
WESA uses the same proven system used by Pride organizations across North America to assess skill levels of players.  The Yes answers to a player's Skill Questions are added up for their SQ.  To dive deeper into the Player Skills Assessments read more here.

SQs Assignments for Divisions
TIER 1:  0-5
Additional considerations: No player may have Q#3
-
TIER 2:  5-7
Addition considerations: with a minimum of one question per skill category
-
TIER 3: 8+
Additional considerations: players wishing to play in T3  who have proven experience handling fast-paced competitive play will be considered by the Commission

Masters Allowance
Players aged 50 or older (in the calendar year) may request to play one division lower than their assessed skill level, provided it does not compromise safety or competitive balance.

Playing Schedule
Most games are played on Sundays between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM (with 8:30 AM arrivals for early games).  Weekday evening games may also be needed for the schedule including games reschedule for weather/field conditions. While the league strives for balance in scheduling, members must be prepared to play at any game time.

Equipment
Learn more about slo-pitch softball equipment here.

A Friendly Atmosphere while we build community
The league's goals are to provide a friendly atmosphere for building: Competition • Community • Legacy.   We value Sportsmanship • Inclusion • Pride.  As a volunteer-run, competitive sports league for the Pride community, these values guide everything we do — on and off the field. Learn more about our values HERE.

Volunteering

Everything in WESA happens because of volunteers. You’ll get the most out of your season by joining one of our volunteer groups in Athletics, Competition, Special Events, or Membership. Learn more about volunteering HERE.

Alcohol-Free Games

WESA games are strictly alcohol-free, in compliance with SPN insurance and City of Vancouver field permits. We also strive to maintain a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space for all members — including those in recovery or seeking a substance-free environment.

All players are expected to avoid:

  • Using intoxicating substances before or during any WESA game/practice/clinic.
  • Appearing to be intoxicated while participating
  • Having or consuming alcohol at games, practices, or clinics
