Evaluations
Teams are drafted based on an evaluation process. Evaluators assess the skill level of every player including; layups, shooting, dribbling, agility/quickness, etc.
**IMPORTANT** These evaluations are NOT tryouts. This information is only used to assess a players current skill level and is a tool for the RCBA to try and make teams as fair & evenly balanced as possible.
ALL PLAYERS MAKE A TEAM REGARDLESS OF HOT THEY ARE EVALUATED.
Team Selection
When drafting teams, we take into account the nights of availability for each player, their evaluation results, and other activities they participate in. The league does everything possible to distribute the skill levels evenly across all teams.
*The RCBA does not accept zone requests- THIS IS A CITY-WIDE PROGRAM; PLAYERS COULD BE ASSIGNED A PRACTICE FACILITY OUTSIDE THEIR ZONE*
Pooling
The Grade 7 & 8 division is divided into pools, this is due to a wide range of skill between players in this age group. The RCBA uses evaluation results to create balanced teams in separate pools. The number of teams in each pool is determined by the number of participants and the evaluation results. The number of teams in each pool may change from year to year.
Based on evaluation results, a set number of players will automatically qualify for Pool 1.
A small number of players will be invited to our "Bubble Evaluations" - a second set of evaluations to determine the remaining spots in a division (if the RCBA determines there are 8 in Pool 1 (80 Players), 70 players will automatically qualify for Pool 1. The next 20 players will be asked to come back for a second evaluation. The results from the second evaluation will be used to fill the remaining 10 spots in pool 1. )
Games
Game format is 5-on-5. Zone defense is not allowed. Person to person pressing is allowed. Game sessions are 75 minutes.
Scoring
Scores are kept & displayed. If the point differential is more then 25 points, coaches have the option to discontinue showing the score. On the RCBA website, scores will ONLY be recorded up to a 25 point differential. this is to discourage teams from running up the score.
Playoffs
All teams make it into the playoffs and will have a minimum of 2 games. Playoff brackets will be posted & matchups are determined by the season's final standings.
