Coach Mia Ouellette – Assistant Coach 15UG

As an educator for the past 18 years, Coach Mia brings a passion for helping young people fulfill their goals to her role as a coach with Subzero. A former player at the provincial level, Mia first began coaching grade 9/10 volleyball in 2012. This year, she is taking on the challenge of working with the 15U Girls group, as she loves teaching the fundamentals of volleyball. When asked why she coaches, she responded “I coach because it is important for youth to develop skills and passions outside of school for their development and well-being. I am a strong believer that playing sports can help youth develop social, collaborative, self-regulation, and self-agency skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives.” As a coach, she always enjoys watching a youth’s progression both on the court and as a person from the beginning to the end of a season. But a highlight from the 2023 season was accompanying the15U boys to Nationals in Edmonton and seeing them work so hard together to win the semi-finals. Subzero is absolutely thrilled to have Mia on our coaching team again this year!
Meet Coach Jeremy Staveley – Head Coach 15UB

Subzero is delighted to have Jeremy Staveley with us for a fourth year. Coach Jeremy joined Subzero during the 2023 season as the Head Coach for the newly established Subzero Faro Satellite team. He was instrumental in helping to build a thriving volleyball program in Faro. Born in Vancouver and raised in Cochrane, Alberta, Jeremy has lived in the Yukon on and off since 2006, but has called Yukon home since 2020. These days, he can be found enjoying all the benefits of being a Marsh Lake resident. As an avid paddler, in the summer you will generally find him on the water. Jeremy began his volleyball journey as a player with Dinos Volleyball (Calgary) and later with the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). He has been coaching for the past 17 years, and has coached for the Prince George Kodiaks, Calgary High School Athletics, Team Alberta, and in the Yukon. When asked why he coaches, Jeremy cited a love for the sport, competing, and making meaningful connections between life and athletics. We are so fortunate to have Coach Jeremy with us this year!
Coach Taylor Phillips – Head Coach 16UG and AC 15UG

Meet Coach Taylor Phillips, coach of Subzero’s 16U Girls AND our 15U Girls teams! Taylor has been coaching for the past 17 years and has completed her Advanced Development Coach training. If that wasn't enough, Taylor also plays a key role on the Board of Volleyball Yukon where she makes so many volleyball opportunities happen. As a former northern player herself (she has competed indoor volleyball in two Arctic Winter Games for Team NWT as well as in the Western Canada Summer Games for beach volleyball) Taylor brings an incredible amount of dedication to her coach role. She is the coach who is always booking extra fitness sessions, setting up games, talking about nutrition and generally looking for every possible way to set up her team for success. Taylor generously gives her time to volleyball year round, coaching clinics, club season and beach season. When asked why she coaches, Taylor responded “I didn't have a volleyball coach growing up and want to give back to the sport I love. Watching the athlete grow and learn to love the sport is so rewarding. My favorite thing about coaching is watching the moment a skill makes sense to an athlete. The rapid rate of progression once that happens is incredible.” We are very fortunate to have Coach Taylor on the Subzero team!

When asked about her coaching philosophy she believes that players need intensity and effort, the skill will follow. Emi has been in the Yukon for 14 years. Off the court she loves to power lift and read. When asked about what superpower she would like to have, Emi said a photographic memory because it would be so useful in so many different situations. Coach Emi thanks for helping the athletes build memories!
Coach Andrie Regis- Head Coach 17UB - Team 2

Coach Andrie is proud to say that volleyball is a family tradition. He grew up watching his father playing and organizing the Filipino league. Andrie has continued the tradition, playing since high school and he now organizes the Filipino league. He has been coaching this group for 5 years (since they were 13U!) and really enjoys coaching his brother. His favorite thing about coaching is passing on the passion for the game to the younger generation. When asked about the one thing he wants to teach the players, he quickly said mental toughness and the ability to not get stuck. Keep looking to the next play. Andrie has been in the Yukon 14 years. Off the court he loves to do photography. When asked what superpower he would like to have, he said ‘mind reading’ so he could know what people think! We think you are great Coach Andrie!

To the players, Kevaughn is known as Coach Kev, The Goat or My king. He played high school volleyball and Subzero club volleyball. He loves being able to pass on his love of the game and has been coaching for 4 years. His favorite thing about it is watching the athletes’ progress - from seeing the potential to the players doing it! When asked what’s the one thing that he wanted the athletes to learn from him, his answer was good decision making on and off the court. His coaching philosophy is determination and effort are key to success. He quickly added – and always smiling at the end of the game regardless of the outcome. Kevaughn has been in the Yukon almost 7 years. When not on the court, he loves to cook and play video games. Kevaughn’s superpower would be to be omnipresent so he could help as many people as possible at the same time! Thanks for helping all the U17B athletes – Coach Kev!
Coach Frank Oblak - Assistant Coach 14UB

Meet Coach Frank Oblak, assistant coach for the Subzero 14UB. Coach Frank started coaching in 2019 with Subzero and travelled to Nationals with the 14UB that year. Since 2019 he has coached various levels of indoor and beach volleyball with Subzero and is a regular feature in our fall Serve and Pass clinics. "The most satisfaction I receive from coaching volleyball is to see the athletes that started out at the 14U level continue to play the sport once they finish their high school years at events like drop in volleyball or tournaments. I have continued to play competitive indoor and beach volleyball since I was a student at Whitehorse Elementary and always enjoy seeing the athletes I have coached either on the same court I am on, or the other side of the net. Sport for life is a wonderful thing!"
Thank you Coach Frank for passing on your love of volleyball to our players!
Coach Armand Guilbeault - Assistant Coach 14UB
Armand is one of our youth assistants, helping out with the 14UB team this year. Meet Armand - Hi, I’m Armand Guilbeault, and I’m currently a libero/left side for the Subzero 17U Boys team. Some of my proudest accomplishments include representing Team Yukon at the Canada Cup, and I’ll also be representing Team Yukon at the Arctic Winter Games this March. I coach because I want to give back to the volleyball community that has given me so much, and to inspire younger players to work hard, believe in themselves, and enjoy the game. Volleyball has played a huge role in my life, and I’m excited to help the next generation grow both on and off the court.
