south winnipeg Kings Program (A Hockey)

The South Winnipeg Kings Hockey Program includes U9A, U11, U13, U15, and U18 coed teams.  These teams compete in city-wide divisions throughout the regular season and City Playoffs under the umbrella of Hockey Winnipeg.

Program Overview

Teams are organized by skill level to ensure fair competition and meaningful participation for all players.  Several years ago, Hockey Winnipeg implemented a new tiered structure to better balance teams and address skill disparities, especially at the younger age groups.

Team Formation

The number of teams formed each year is based on:

  • The total number of registered players within SWHA boundaries
  • Minimum and maximum roster sizes, as determined by Hockey Winnipeg

All teams compete under the “South Winnipeg Kings” name.

Player Evaluations

Player placement is determined through third-party evaluations, which occur before the season starts. Evaluations assess players by:

  • Skater or Goaltender (based on the position selected at registration)
  • Skill level and game awareness

These evaluations ensure that each player is placed on a team suited to their development level.
