Transitioning from Respect in Sport (RIS) to The Shift Forward
Beginning in the 2026-2027 season, Hockey Canada is launching The Shift Forward: Evolving Hockey Culture - a new national education and development program for coaches and parents/guardians.
Developed through extensive consultation with hockey stakeholders across Canada, The Shift Forward introduces modern, age-appropriate, and engaging training designed to support participants throughout their hockey journey while helping foster a healthier hockey culture on and off the ice.
As part of the transition, Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta will continue to recognize existing Respect in Sport (RIS) certifications until their current expiry date.
The Shift Forward represents a proactive step toward creating a safer, more positive hockey experience for everyone involved in the game.
