Coaches’ Responsibilities
As a coach in our organization, your role is crucial for nurturing both the athletic and personal growth of our players. Here’s a detailed look at your responsibilities:
- Skill and Tactical Development: Lead training sessions that enhance soccer skills and deepen tactical understanding for all players.
- Attendance: Encourage players to regularly attend Strength, Agility, and Quickness (SAQ) sessions. Your role will be to monitor their participation and support their commitment, rather than directly implementing fitness programs. This focus on SAQ participation is vital for their physical development and performance on the field.
- Safety and Well-being: Always prioritize the safety and well-being of players, following best practices for injury prevention and promptly addressing any health concerns.
- Positive Team Environment: Cultivate a supportive and positive atmosphere that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and a genuine love for the game.
- Communication: Keep open lines of communication with players and their families, providing updates on team expectations, individual progress, and relevant information.
- Match Preparation: Prepare the team for matches with a clear strategic plan, ensuring players understand their roles and the overall game strategy.
- Equitable Play and Positioning: Manage game time equitably, based on attendance and engagement, placing players in positions where they are most likely to succeed and contribute positively to the team. This approach ensures each player feels valued and has the opportunity to develop.
- Continuous Development: Pursue ongoing personal development to enhance your coaching abilities and stay abreast of the latest coaching trends and techniques.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the Technical Director and fellow coaching staff to execute training plans effectively and integrate constructive feedback into your coaching practices.
By embracing these responsibilities, you play a significant role in the holistic development of our players, ensuring they not only advance in soccer but also learn important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
Team Managers’ Responsibilities
Team Managers are crucial for the logistical and organizational success of our teams, with responsibilities that include:
- Communication: Keeping the team informed about schedules, changes, and important notices.
- Logistics and Administration: Managing equipment, venue arrangements, travel plans, and ensuring players and team officials (coaches, managers) are properly added to the league official rosters.
- Event and Tournament Organization: Planning team-building activities, tournament participation, and the year-end event.
- Game Day and Volunteer Management: Preparing and submitting game sheets, ensuring players and coaches are correctly rostered for matches, and creating volunteer tasks in the Teamlinkt App such as referee liaison, net and flag setup, snacks, etc.
- Deposits and Equipment Maintenance: Collecting Jersey and Volunteer Deposits and maintaining the team kit and first aid supplies.
- Incident Reporting: Submitting detailed incident reports to the board as required.
Vulnerable Sector Check
Leduc Soccer prioritizes the safety of its members. To volunteer or coach, you must submit an annual Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). If you already have a VSC, it can be used as long as it is no older than 90 days at the time of submission; otherwise, a new VSC is required. VSCs are valid for three year with Leduc Soccer. For example, if you submitted a VSC for the previous outdoor season, you do not need a new VSC for the following indoor season. Similarly, if you submitted a VSC for the previous indoor season and are returning for the following outdoor season, you do not need to submit a new VSC.
To obtain a VSC you will need to first modify, print and present this VSC Letter to the police, necessary to get the police to waive the VSC fees, and provide two government-issued IDs like a driver's license, passport, or birth certificate to the police. Please modify the VSC letter by choosing "Vulnerable Sector Check" from the initial dropdown menu, updating the "Applicant Legal Name" to your own name, and specifying your role (such as Coach, Team Manager, etc.) as illustrated below.
To obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), residents must visit specific law enforcement offices depending on their location. Here's what you need to know:

Tournaments
For each indoor and outdoor season, LSA has allotted funds for our EMSA indoor and outdoor and BRSA outdoor teams to participate in 1 tournament; you can find the list of available tournaments here:

After selecting and registering your team for a tournament, and once the payment is completed, please submit your expense claim following our established process.
EMSA ID Cards
For players who are new to the EMSA and all new coaches and managers (U8 and up), it is mandatory to have an EMSA ID card. To obtain your EMSA ID card, please follow the instructions outlined below. Only those players they play on U11 through U19 EMSA Club (Competitive) teams or on U13 through U19 EMSA Community (Semi-Competitive) require EMSA ID cards. BRSA (recreation) teams do not require any ID cards.
1. Capture a close-up photo or selfie of the player or team official. Ensure that there are no hats, sunglasses, or hands covering their faces. Also, the shoulders must be covered. The photo should be attached in JPEG or PDF format. Please note that photos in special files, or those that are too small, narrow, or stretched out will not be accepted.
2. Take a photo or scan a copy of one piece of government-issued identification for the person. This can be their Alberta Health Care Card, Birth Certificate, Passport, or Driver's License.
3. Send an email to
emsa.ecarding@emsamain.com, with the subject stating the full name of the person who requires an e-card. For example, "Request EMSA e-card for (FIRST NAME and LAST NAME)." Attach the photo/selfie (point 1) and the government-issued ID (point 2) to the email.
Your EMSA ID card is essential for participation in the league.
EMSA ID Card Verfication Process
This process is to be performed prior to each game and came into effect October 17, 2023.
Team Official Card Verification Protocol
- A designated team official will make contact with the opposing team 15 minute prior to kick off.
- They will take the opposing team’s game sheet and check both Team Officials and players cards for that team.
- The designate Team Official will then print their name at the top left of the opponents’ game sheet indicating that they checked the game sheet and all Team Officials and players cards.
- Any uncertainty or concerns will be brought to the attention of the referee to make the final decision.
- Any late players who are unchecked will be checked at half time by the referee.
Referee Game sheet Responsibilities
- To ensure that they receive the game sheet and any trialist forms from each team.
- To ensure that a referee Liaison is in place.
- To settle any discrepancies or disputes on player eligibility or identification.
- Properly write down the score, scorers and any cards that were given.
- To submit the game sheet and trialist form to EMSA as per procedure directed by the Referee Assignor.
Incident Reports
Team Officials, including Coaches and Managers, must file an Incident Report for injuries that necessitate an Emergency Medical Response or Emergency Room treatment. Additionally, any organization member, such as parents or players, is also eligible to submit an Incident Report. In addition, LSA requires members to complete reports for incidents involving physical assault, verbal abuse, sexual misconduct/abuse, social media harassment, general misconduct, property damage, or theft/loss of LSA or personal property in order to to take appropriate action.

Field ConditionS
The following links are useful for monitoring field conditions and determining if a field can be used:
City of Leduc - Open: Amenity is in good playing condition and open.
- User Discretion: Amenity deemed slippery, poses potentially unsafe conditions and chance of damage. Use is not recommended and is at the users discretion and risk.
- Closed: City of Leduc has deemed the conditions unplayable due to severe weather and/or increased probability of risk and damages. Amenity is closed for use, any scheduled bookings have been cancelled. User takes on full responsibility for any damages or risk involved, if diamond/field is played on.
All school fields are also managed by the City of Leduc except fields at the Leduc Junior High School and East Elementary.

Indoor Facilities
Leduc Soccer conducts its indoor season in school gymnasiums and the Leduc Recreation Centre Fieldhouse. These indoor facilities are also utilized during the outdoor season when field conditions are unfavorable. However, the decision to use indoor facilities for practice is at the discretion of the board, as these costs are not included in the outdoor registration fees.

ReScheduling Practices and Games FOR bRSA (RecrEATION) TEAMS
For Games
- Communicate with the opposing team's officials (head coach/team manager) to agree on a new time for the game.
For Home Games:
- Check the availability of fields by consulting the field schedule, which can be found at Leduc Soccer Field Schedule. Ensure to select the Current Season.
- You can filter by location using the rightmost drop down.
Available Game Fields:
- U8-U9: Field 11 Mini & Field 12 Mini
- U11: Field 17 and 18
- U13 & Up (Full Sized Fields): In order of preference - Field 10, 11, 9, then 12
For fields that are also designated as practice fields (such as Field 11 Mini, 12 Mini, Field 12, and Field 9), be sure to also check the availability of half fields (North/South or East/West) when scheduling.
- Check with LSA’s Referee Director, Will Veidemanis, to check availability of referees. He is available through Teamlinkt or via email at referees@leducsoccer.ca
For Away Games:
- Its up to the opposition team to arrange referees and fields.
Finalizing the Schedule:
- Reach out to the field scheduler for your age group to secure the time and place for the rescheduled game. (Note: The field scheduler contacts will be set up and provided to you shortly or you can reach out to scheduler@leducsoccer.ca.) Also reschedule any practices as require to accomodate the rescheduled game.
- Verify that the schedule has been updated on Teamlinkt as well as on the BRSA website - https://www.battleriversoccer.com/
For PRACTICES

Please use the provided Expense Approval form to submit any expenses you require reimbursement for or need LSA to pay to a vendor.
Expense Approval Form When filling out the form, you must upload an image or PDF of the receipt or bill. Multiple files can be uploaded if necessary. Additionally, please include proof of payment if you made the purchase or paid the expense out-of-pocket.
