The Kingston Grenadiers announce new leadership at the Junior varsity level with the appointment of Richard "Rick" Miles as their new Head Coach.
"We're very excited to be able to announce Rick Miles as the Head Coach of the Junior Varsity team. Rick is football personified, and I can think of no one better to lead the Grenadiers Junior Varsity team forward…” said Kingston Grenadiers President, Alexandra Reyes-Walsh.
Miles will be bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge, as an educator, as coach and as a former football player. Miles is a retired teacher with the Upper Canada District School Board, where he coached the Thousand Island Pirates (TISS) football for 23 years at the junior and senior level in Brockville. In 2016, he received the Brockville Sports Person of the Year Coaching Award for a lifetime commitment to coaching and his work with the TISS football program.
Rick spent 8 years with the Grenadiers when his sons played for the Gren’s family. His resume with the Gren’s includes coaching all defensive and offensive positions as well as serving as DC and OC throughout the years. Missing the camaraderie and competition of football, Miles returned to the Grenadiers in 2023 as the Defensive Linemen Coach for the Senior Varsity team. This will be Rick’s second time head coaching the Junior Varsity team.
“We will do everything each day as a TEAM to build on last year’s successes.” Miles said in a statement. “I’m remarkably fortunate to have been afforded the privilege of coaching at places where life’s journey has created strong personal connections for me that fill me with pride. I think there is a responsibility to give back and grow the sport and I’m looking forward to working with our younger coaches to help them take over the reins."
When asked about the back-to-back announcements of new Head Coaches for both the Senior and Varsity, Reyes-Walsh said “Timing is everything, and we are very fortunate to have coaches who are not only great coaches with the Xs and Os, but also coaches who cares about their players and coaches I'd want my sons to play for. Our Head Coaches are in the final stages of formalizing their coaching staff, and we look forward to them leading the Kingston Grenadiers football programs for years to come.” Coach Miles is taking over from Cole Haggar and the Kingston Grenadiers wish to thank him for his hard work and dedication to the program in the last year and wishes him continued success.
