Safety
Glenlake introduced the role of Safety Director in 2019 to ensure the highest level of safety for our children while they enjoy the sport they love. This page provides health and safety resources and forms. Each team in Glenlake will have a designated Safety Coordinator. Some of their responsibilities include:
Safety Coordinator Role (2 credits):
- Being aware of safety preparedness, such as knowing the address or directions to rinks in case of emergencies, locations of defibrillators and safety kits, ensuring bench doors are closed during ice sessions, and preventing entry onto the ice before the Zamboni door is closed.
- Completing the Hockey Canada Safety online course (cost reimbursed by GL).
- Tracking and reporting injuries to the Glenlake Safety Director (Candice Ross). This helps identify injury patterns and mitigate risks. Note: Hockey Calgary only tracks injuries if games are missed.
- Submitting Injury Report forms and Injury Tracking forms. Reports must be submitted within 90 days of the injury date. The Hockey Canada Insurance program is secondary, meaning claims must first be submitted to any other available plan.
- Completing a mandatory concussion course.
- Monitoring and communicating any player allergies or health issues to managers and coaches.
- Ensuring proper use of equipment to keep all players safe, including sanitization of shared goalie gear at the novice level. Equipment coordinators will provide sanitizing spray to be used between each player's turn in goal.
