NEW UPDATES THIS YEAR

  • Competitive Cheer: We are happy to announce that both the Mighty Warriors (grades 3-5) and Warriors (Grades 6-8) cheer squads will be competing this year! Competition is a requirement of the American Youth Cheer league that has been waived the past three years to allow the Wayland Weston Cheer program to grow and mature. This is the next step for Wayland Weston Cheer and we can’t wait to watch our athletes soar to the next level!
  • Professional Choreographer: Our Mighty Warriors and Warriors squads will be working with a professional choreographer, in addition to our volunteer coaching staff, to prepare for competition.
  • Athlete Commitment: Because we are transitioning to a competitive program, athletes on the Mighty Warriors (grades 3-5) and Warriors (grades 6-8) squads are required to attend two practices per week during the regular season, as well as attend two day mandatory weekend choreography session. The Warriors weekend choreography session will be from 9-3 on September 7 and 8. The Mighty Warriors weekend choreography session will be from 9-3 on September 14 and 15. Cheerleaders must attend BOTH days of choreography for their team. Please keep these commitments in mind when signing your athlete up for cheer and mark your calendars with these dates now.
  • Warriors (grades 6-8): will be declaring a "National Track" which will allow them to move on after the local competition to regionals and/or nationals if they qualify. Competitions will be on October 5, October 19/20, November 2, Nov 16 and nationals in Florida December 3-7 if the team qualifies. Please mark these dates in your calendar now!
  • Mighty Warriors (grades 3-5): In addition to cheering at home games on Sundays, this squad will participate in local competitions on October 5 and the weekend of October 19/20. Please mark these dates in your calendar now!
  • Registration: Opens April 1 for returning families and April 3rd for new families. Late registration ($50) starting June 1.
  • Questions: Please reach out to Cheer Coordinator, Courtney Conery with any questions: Courtney.conery@gmail.com

Uniforms: Uniform fittings will happen in June, dates TBD. All cheerleaders must be in uniform while on sidelines. WWYFC will provide each cheerleader with a uniform (shell and skirt) and pom-poms that will be returned at the end of the season. All cheerleaders will receive a hairbow that they may keep. You will need to purchase the following black undergarments for your athlete to wear under their uniform:  tank top, gymnastics shorts, cold weather leggings and a tight fitting black cold weather long sleeve shirt. Cheerleaders will also need white cheer shoes and white ankle socks. A list of all required items will be provided at uniform fittings in June with examples and links to purchase.

Tiny Warriors Squad (grades 1-2) (Registration Fee: $225)

  • Schedule: This team will practice on Tuesday and Thursdays. Practice will begin Tuesday, August 20. Tiny Warriors will cheer at home games on Sundays.

Mighty Warriors Squad (grades 3-5) (Registration Fee: $275)

  • Aug/Pre-season Practice: The 3-5 Squad will begin practice outdoors at WHS: Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings beginning Aug 20 through Thursday, September 5.
  • Conditioning Hours: Cheerleaders are REQUIRED by the league, and for insurance/safety purposes, to complete 10 hours of conditioning practice hours PRIOR to attending choreography sessions, stunting, or tumbling. Your athlete MUST attend 10 hours of pre-season practice before September 14. We recognize family vacations and other end of summer commitments may make it difficult for athletes to secure their 10 conditioning hours. We have built in 15 hours of conditioning. Please reach out to the cheer coordinator if you do not think you can meet these requirements so we can come up with a plan for your athlete.
  • Choreography Weekend: September 14th and September 15th will be MANDATORY choreography session from 9 am - 3 pm. Must attend both days.
  • Regular season practice: Loker gym evenings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning on Tuesday, September 10. NOTE THE SWITCH TO WEDNESDAY. Attendance at both practice days is required.
  • Games and competition: Mighty Warriors sideline cheer at home on Sundays. Local competitions will be on October 5 and the weekend October 19/20.
  • Please keep these requirements in mind when signing up your athlete.

Warriors Squad (grades 6-8) ($325)

  • August/Pre-season Practice: Warriors will begin outdoors at WHS with two practices the week of Aug 19 (Tues & Thurs evenings), four practices the week of Aug 26th (Tues - Fri evenings) and three practices the week of Sept. 2 (Tue - Thurs evenings).
  • 10 Conditioning Hours: Cheerleaders are REQUIRED by the league, and for insurance/safety purposes, to complete 10 hours of conditioning practice hours PRIOR to attending choreography sessions, stunting, or tumbling. Your athlete MUST attend 10 hours of pre-season practice before September 7. We recognize family vacations and other end of summer commitments may make it difficult for athletes to secure their 10 conditioning hours. Please reach out to cheer coordinator if you do not think you can meet these requirements so we can come up with a plan for your athlete.
  • Choreography Weekend: September 7th and September 8th will be MANDATORY choreography session from 9 am - 3 pm. Must attend both days.
  • Regular season practice: Loker gym from evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on Tuesday, September 10. Attendance at both practice days is required.
  • Games and competition: Warriors sideline cheer at home on Sundays. THE 6-8 SQUAD WILL BE DECLARING A NATIONAL TRACK. The squad will go to local competitions on October 5 and the weekend of October 19/20. If the team qualifies, they will move on to states on November 2 in Lowell, MA, then Regionals Nov 16 in Lowell, MA. If the team qualifes at regionals, they will move on to nationals which will be December 3-7 in Kissimmee, Florida. If you are on this team, the expectation is that you will compete at nationals if the squad qualifies. WWYFC plans to fundraise as much as possible, but the expectation is costs to attend nationals would be self-pay. If this will be a financial hardship for you, PLEASE reach out to the cheer coordinator or WWYFC president so we can ensure your athlete is able to participate with their team.
  • Please keep these requirements in mind when signing up your athlete.
