Welcome to the SFFL’s AGM for the 2023 season – SFFL’s 12th season of flag football.

Recognize all guests in attendance for our first official AGM.

 

The SFFL was established in 2011 and has officially become a registered not-for-profit sports organization committed to providing transparency as well as fulfilling its mission statement of providing a safe and fun environment for members to engage in competitive, organized flag football.

This evening’s meeting is planned with 2 information sessions.

    1. Volunteering       

If you have benefited from the SFFL through hours of enjoyable and memorable recreation, perhaps now it is time for you to consider giving back to the league.  Volunteers are always welcome. One can assist the league either as an executive committee member or as a volunteer performing a specific task such as recording game or roster data or organizing the Year-End Celebration or other event. Commitment: 5 hours

        1. 10.0 LEAGUE DISCIPLINE
          1. Implementing fines for defaults and suspensions (when warranted)

“10.3 In addition to any game suspensions, the Board of Directors may also charge fines to any teams and/or players implicated by any disciplinary matter.

10.4 The application for game suspensions may extend into the following season(s). Fines are payable in full to the Scramble Flag Football League:

  • Before that team’s next game within the SFFL if the entire team is being disciplined.
  • Before those players may play another game in the SFFL (for any SFFL team) if only individual players are being disciplined.”
      1. PLAYOFFS
  1. CHANGE TO: Players are required to play in a minimum of 3 regular season games of that same season to be eligible to participate in playoff games.
      1. GAME FORFEITS
  2. (A) When utilizing the grace period, implement a potential abbreviated game, and the offending team loses the rock-paper-scissors for both halves of the game if they are able to field the minimum number of players
  3. (D) Implement fines for forfeiture

“The fine for a game forfeit is $125 if either no notice or notice on the day of the game is given to the League.

A fine of $75 is assigned if notice arrives to the League before game day but less than 48 hours prior to the game time.

In either case, the fine must be paid prior to the team’s next game.

The non-offending team involved in the game forfeit will receive $50 as compensation.

The League reserves the right to make adjustments in the fine amount should exceptional circumstances exist.”

      1. TIE-BREAKERS
  1. (A) If new point system is implemented, the tie breaker in standings will be as follows:

“Points – The team with the highest awarded points will be ranked higher

Wins – The team with the higher total number of wins will be ranked higher

Point differential – The team with the greatest point differential will be ranked higher

Wins, Head-to-Head – The team with the greater number of wins in head-to-head games will be ranked higher *tied teams must have played an equal number of games to use head-to-head”

    1. League finances are in good shape.  As of 31-Dec-2022, the league’s bank account cash-on-hand balance was $1179.15.
    2. The financial forecast for the upcoming 2023 season is based on a league of 6 teams. Total revenue forecasts are restricted to mandatory team fees only, with each team paying the $1100 Team Registration fee.

      1. Process
  1. Captains must register all players on their team through the Google Form provided by SFFL.
  2. No player should play in a game without first reviewing and signing the Player Registration and Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Agreement.

‘Player Registration and Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Agreement’

    1. Each year/season, ALL players must fill out this form.
    2. Players may only be registered with one SFFL team.
  1. Roster changes (additions, deletions) should be reflected on SFFL systems
  2. Maximum 12 players; minimum 10 recommended
  3. Game suspensions may be assigned to Captains for playing ineligible/unregistered players.
  1. FIELD PERMITS, SCHEDULING & RESCHEDULING

SFFL rents a field at the Brampton Rugby Football Club. Depending on availability, SFFL will use the main field or the secondary field.

  • Field will be rented on Sunday’s from, timing to be determined based on number of games.
  • Please ensure that garbage at the field site is properly disposed of.
  • Consumption of alcohol is prohibited at the game site.
  • Note that when available, the Clubhouse washrooms will be open for use. Please be respectful. No cleats are to be worn inside the bar area of the clubhouse.
  • Our field agreement requires that we do not abuse our privileges.
  • Regular-season games begin on May 28, 2023.
  • Games are played on Sunday’s.
  • Games are not scheduled on Holiday weekends (Canada Day or Civic Holiday).

 

  • Playoff games start in August.
  • Championship game will likely be scheduled for Aug. 20

Games that are cancelled due to weather conditions at game time, will be rescheduled. See Weather Policy.

Teams may request that a game be rescheduled but only if it is absolutely necessary.

In order to be eligible for an SFFL regular-season game, a player must:

    • Complete and submit a 2023 ‘Player Registration & Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Agreement’.
    • Only be registered with one SFFL team.

In order to be eligible for a play-off game, a player must:

  • have played in 3 regular-season games. 
    • In order to qualify for ‘having played a game’, the player must have been listed on the game sheet as having been present during the game.

Scores and standings are posted weekly; however, at the end of each game the team captain/representative should check the game sheet to be sure it has been filled in correctly. Team members should also check later in the week to ensure that the league’s website has been updated correctly with that final score.

Regular season ending ties are broken as per the league Tie-Breaker Policy.

4 Player Minimum

Teams must have a minimum of 4 players to start a game.

  • A team has up to 15 minutes after the scheduled start time in order to field the minimum number of players.

SFFL - providing a safe and fun environment for members to engage in competitive, organized flag football.

 

Please ensure you and your team members are aware of the Code of Conduct and follow it.

  1. All players should shake the hands of the opposition as well as the officials at end of the game.
  2. Player conduct before, during and after a game are subject to discipline.
  1. 2 OC’s same game – automatic ejection
  2. An ejection does not require 2 OC’s; specifically, safety issue or player in-eligibility issue can be resolved via immediate ejections
  3. Players ejected may not only be asked to leave the field of play but the entire game site.
  4. An ejection involves suspension for future play until further notice (disciplinary director investigation).

 

Whenever issues regarding member conduct - on or off the field; before, during or after a game - are brought to the attention of the League Executives, the Discipline Director investigates.

If concerns are expressed by game officials – player conduct: verbal, nonverbal, physical – the Referee Liaison will be notified, and the Discipline Director investigates.

After investigating, the Discipline Director may assign a team, its captain(s) and/or player(s) supplemental discipline in the form of a game or multiple-game suspension. Other forms of discipline or mediation may also be employed.

The Referee Liaison and Discipline Director are the principal points of contact when dealing with issues involving game officials and/or their game reports.

All decisions are final as there is no appeal process.

SFFL obtains independent officials with extensive experience and background in flag football.

 

If you have questions concerning the rules or the application of the rules, please contact the Referee Liaison (Deidre Donaldson) who will address your concerns and consult with the President, if necessary.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the officials, please contact the President who will address them in a timely manner.

  • Pay team registration fees
  • Register all players on SFFL registration system (when it is implemented)
  • Collect from all team members and submit Player Registration and Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Agreement’ forms to SFFL Registrar via Executive Committee member
  • Provide Captain with required personal information for registration purposes
  • Pay share of team fees
  • Read, sign, and submit: Player Registration and Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Agreement’ to Captain
  • Read Code of Conduct

Overall: Organize the team and act as communicator between League and team.

      Perform duties before, during and after games.

During the Season:

  • Update Team Roster
  • Ensure players are aware of:
    • team’s schedule and any schedule changes
    • SFFL website and social media
  • Ensure team members have numbered jerseys
  • Cooperate with requests for game rescheduling

Game Day:

  • Check e-mail for game cancellations or other notification
  • Bring (extra) game jerseys

      At the Game:

  • Promote safe, fun, competitive flag football
  • Show respect for game officials and the difficult job they perform
  • Assist players with learning the rules
  • Ensure players and fans know and abide by League rules and policies
  • At the end of the game verify the score on game sheet

Overall: Have safe, competitive fun.

During the Season:

  • Notify Captain of games you will be unable to attend as soon as you know.

Game Day:

  • Come prepared and on time with Jersey

At the Game:

  • Notify Captain of any unsafe conditions
  • Remove self from game if physically or mentally unable to play safely
  • Shake hands with opponents and game officials at the end of the game
  • Act in accordance with the Code of Conduct

Overall: Know and enforce the Rulebook. Develop a positive relationship with players.

At the Game:

  • Perform duties of game official
  • Verify attendance is completed prior to game commencement
  • Verify accuracy of game sheets
  • Sign game sheets

Players interested in joining the SFFL can express their interest by filling out a form online. Email has been sent to all who expressed interest. Possibility of forming a new team with these players. Dependent on the number still interested.

SFFL is currently undergoing a complete renovation in terms of the website. The goal is to have it up and running prior to the season beginning. However, if unforeseen circumstances occur then we ask members to continue following our social media accounts for the most recent information, updates, schedules etc.
