The Kingston Grenadiers have officially found their new Senior Varsity Head Coach — Mark Magee.

The Grenadiers are very excited to be welcoming back Coach Mark Magee in the Senior Varsity Head Coach position.  “Beyond his proven record as a coach, Mark has demonstrated a deep understanding of the local football landscape and its people, our organizations culture and a commitment to give back to our community.  I am thrilled to welcome him and his family back to the Grens family and eager to get to work on a successful 2024 season.”

Mark is a graduate of the Queen's University Technological Internship Program and teaches at Frontenac Secondary. Mark has more than 30 years of experience coaching minor, high school and university football. He started at LCVI, and QECVI in the early 80's winning 3 KASSAA championships at LCVI and numerous KASSAA, National Capital and OFSSA Championship bowl games as an assistant and head coach of the Frontenac SS Falcons. He also coached the Grenadiers for seven seasons before taking an extended sabbatical at the end of the 2017 season. As the Head Coach of the Kingston Grenadiers, the Senior Varsity team were conference champions and OPFL finalists in 2016 at the varsity level. Magee joined the Queen’s Gaels coaching staff in 2011 for 7 years, six as the running backs coach.

“The Grenadiers is great program, and I could not be more excited to lead the Senior Varsity team,” said Magee. “I am committed to bringing the Grens a team they can be proud of both on and off the field.” Taking over the reins of the U18 program, Magee has high expectations of what is possible for the players. “We are going to set a high bar in everything we do,” he said. “It’s our job as coaches to develop our players and hold everyone accountable. If we identify the right kids and put them in the best position possible while fostering a positive environment for the players, I think success on the field will follow.”

“We want our kids to go back to their high school, move on to university, CJFL and other life paths they chose, having had the experience of a lifetime where they became better players and leaders while making friendships that will last a lifetime. I hope we can get as many kids participating as possible because I know firsthand how great of an experience it can be.” said Reyes-Walsh.

The Kingston Grenadiers expect to announce the full senior varsity coaching staff roster within the next couple of weeks and the league is expected to release the 2024 game schedule mid-February. In the meantime, registration is open, and everyone is getting ready for team try-outs.
