The Berne Union 8th Grade Volleyball team capped off an incredible season by capturing the MSL Cardinal Division Tournament Championship, finishing with an outstanding 18-2 record. Their consistent play throughout the regular season earned the Rockets the No. 1 seed heading into the postseason, and they proved why they deserved it.
The Rockets opened tournament play in dominant fashion, defeating Harvest Prep in straight sets, 25-8 and 25-8, to advance to the semifinals. In the next round, they faced a tough St. Mary’s squad. After a slow start, the Rockets dropped the opening set 25-23, but regrouped and showed their resilience, taking the next two sets 25-18 and 25-21 to move on to the championship match.
In the MSL Cardinal Division Championship, Berne Union faced a familiar opponent in Bishop Rosecrans. The two teams had split their regular season meetings, but this time the Rockets left no doubt. Berne Union came out strong and controlled the match from start to finish, winning in straight sets 25-18 and 25-15 to claim the tournament crown.
This victory marks back-to-back MSL Cardinal Division Championships for this talented group of athletes.
Head Coach Madi Staten praised her team’s performance, saying, “These girls played their best game. Just beautiful to watch. I love how much they love the game and I am proud of them. They really put in work all season and had so much growth. I was lucky enough to coach them last season and now this season.”
The Rockets’ hard work, determination, and passion for the game have once again paid off, solidifying their place as one of the top programs in the league.
