The Berne Union Rockets volleyball team showed grit and determination Tuesday night, battling back to defeat Fairfield Christian Academy in a thrilling five-set match.
The Knights came out strong, controlling the opening set with a decisive 25-15 win. The Rockets quickly answered, flipping the momentum with a dominant 25-14 victory in the second set to even the match at 1-1.
The third set turned into a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading points down the stretch. Fairfield Christian managed to edge out the Rockets 27-25, putting Berne Union on the brink of defeat.
Refusing to back down, the Rockets responded in the fourth set with clutch plays in the closing moments, pulling out a 25-22 win to force a decisive fifth set.
The finale was every bit as intense as expected. After falling behind early, Berne Union called a timeout, regrouped, and stormed back with momentum on their side. The Rockets closed strong, winning the final set 15-8 to secure the hard-fought victory.
With the win, Berne Union improves to 6-9 overall and 5-4 in Mid-State League play.
