The Berne Union Rockets ran into a red-hot Worthington Christian offense Friday night, falling 63-21 in non-league action.

It was all Warriors in the first quarter, as Worthington Christian struck twice through the air—first on a 3-yard touchdown pass, then on a 38-yard strike to jump out to an early 14-0 lead.

The Rockets found their footing to open the second quarter when quarterback Carson Kiger powered in from a yard out to cut the deficit in half. The Warriors responded quickly with another passing score, this time from 8 yards, before Kiger again led the Rockets downfield. A 53-yard connection to Dillon Cornell set up Berne Union inside the red zone, and Kiger capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.

Just before halftime, the Warriors struck once more—scoring their fourth passing touchdown of the first half with just six seconds left—to take a 28-14 lead into the break.

The Rockets made things interesting to start the second half when Worthington Christian threw an interception that Kiger returned for a defensive touchdown, trimming the Warrior lead to 28-21. But the Warriors quickly regained control, rattling off five unanswered touchdowns, including three more through the air from 29, 15, and 17 yards out, to put the game out of reach.

Kiger finished 9-of-16 passing for 119 yards, while also rushing for 18 yards and two touchdowns. He added a defensive touchdown on his interception return. Mayson Walton chipped in with 15 rushing yards and 21 receiving yards on two catches. Cornell hauled in two passes for 58 yards, Ashton O’Rourke added 32 yards on four catches, and James Cox had one reception for 8 yards.

With the loss, Berne Union falls to 4-2 on the season but remains unbeaten in league play at 2-0. The Rockets will return to Mid-State League Cardinal Division action on Friday, October 3rd, when they host Grove City Christian in a pivotal matchup.
