The Berne Union Rockets varsity volleyball team battled hard but ultimately fell in four sets to Liberty Christian Academy on Monday night.
The first set was a thriller, with both teams trading points before the Eagles narrowly pulled out a 27-25 victory. Berne Union responded with grit in the second set, using strong play at the net and from the service line to even the match with a 25-20 win.
However, Liberty Christian would seize control the rest of the way. The Rockets struggled to find rhythm in the third set as LCA rolled to a 25-13 win, then closed out the match in dominant fashion with a 25-6 fourth set.
Despite the loss, several Rockets stood out. Caroline McGowan delivered 5 aces from the service line. At the net, Zuri Duncan and Miranda Daley powered the offense with 8 kills apiece, while setter Sierra Scanlan tallied 20 assists to pace the attack.
With the setback, Berne Union drops to 3-4 on the season. The Rockets won’t have long to dwell on the defeat, as they return to action tomorrow on the road against Harvest Prep in Mid-State League competition, where they’ll look to bounce back and regain momentum.
