The Berne Union Varsity Volleyball team dropped a tough match on Thursday night, falling in three sets to Grove City Christian. Despite a strong start in the opening set, the Rockets couldn’t keep momentum as the Eagles secured the win with scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-16.
The first set proved to be the most competitive of the night. The Rockets battled point-for-point, but Grove City Christian was able to close it out late, edging Berne Union 25-21. Miranda Daley set the tone for the Rockets with 2 kills, 2 assists, and 6 digs, while defensive efforts from Zuri Duncan and Sierra Scanlan, who each recorded 5 digs, kept the set close.
In the second set, Grove City Christian jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, pulling away for a 25-16 win. The third set followed a similar script, with the Eagles capitalizing on their momentum to finish off the match 25-16.
Daley paced the Rockets’ offense on the night with 5 kills and also tallied 8 digs. Duncan added 4 kills and a team-high 9 digs, while Jaelyn Bycofski chipped in with 3 kills. Scanlan helped facilitate the attack with 7 assists and matched her defensive contributions with 7 digs.
With the loss, Berne Union’s record evens out at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in Mid-State League play. The Rockets will look to bounce back on September 8th when they travel to take on Liberty Christian, who enters the matchup with a 2-7 record.
