Baseball has long been shaped by the extraordinary talent, perseverance, and leadership of Black athletes - from the courage of Jackie Robinson to the dominance of legends like Hank Aaron and the excellence of modern stars such as Mookie Betts.
The Jackie Robinson Fund was created to celebrate that legacy and invest in the next generation of studen-athletes of Black heritage who are committed to success both on the field and in the classroom.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
* Identify as a student of Black, African, Caribbean, or Afro-Latino descent
* Demonstrate a strong desire to participate in organized baseball
* Demonstrate financial need, which includes eligibility for Jumpstart, Kidsport or other financial aid programs, significant family financial obligations, or other documented economic challenges
The Markham District Baseball Association is committed to expanding access and opportunity for Black student-athletes to excel in baseball both on and off the field. Through intentional investment, mentorship, and financial support, we aim to remove barriers, foster leadership, and ensure that talent and determination are met with opportunity.
The Jackie Robinson Fund is more than financial assistance, it is a committment to honouring heritage, strengthening community, and elevating the future of the game.
