High Bridge Youth Basketball

HBYB is a Grade-Based Organization

All players must register for the correct grade. Players found to be incorrectly registered will be moved to the appropriate division if possible, or removed from the program.

Assessments, Draft & Team Participation

Assessments

Teams are drafted based on an evaluation process. Evaluators will assess the skill level of each player at an assessment day. Skills evaluated include; Dribbling, Layups, Shooting, Ball handling and more.

These evaluations determine each player's skill level and are not tryouts. ALL REGISTERED PLAYERS MAKE A TEAM!

Drafts

After the assessments, the ratings will be compiled and shared with coaches for review. Coaches and board members will meet to conduct a player draft. This draft is intended to level skill across the teams within each drafting division. Coaches will use their own discretion to draft their teams while taking the player ratings into account. No draft process will result in a perfectly balanced set of teams. As an organization, we target an average team rank value and strive to align each team closely with that target. This approach provides flexibility for coaches, helps to accommodate player constraints, and maintains a focus on balance.

Team Participation

HBYB requires that all Intermediate and Senior level players participate in at least one scheduled practice per week. This allows for team camaraderie and concepts of play to be provided, enabling the team to work as well as possible together on game day. HBYB is not a Saturday pick-up league.

The league will work with families experiencing scheduling conflicts to facilitate player transfers to another team; however, such a move requires a player on the receiving team to agree to transfer to the sending team. If an arrangement is not feasible, HBYB will provide reimbursement to the family and select a player from the waitlist. To avoid such situations, please disclose any known scheduling conflicts during the registration process or by contacting registration@hbyb.org as soon as possible. This will help prevent coaches from selecting players with timing conflicts during the draft.
