To ensure the safety of all our players all coaches must submit and clear a Criminal Record Check process before the first practice of the season - all documentation is kept confidential by the HBYB. Criminal Record Checks must be updated every 3 years. We do not accept clearances from other neighboring sports leagues. All checks are processed via the High Bridge Police Department.
All coaches must review and atest to League Commitment form commiting themselves to up hold the HIGH BRIDGE YOUTH BASKETBALL - We are a R.E.C. League and the coaches HIGH BRIDGE YOUTH BASKETBALL - CODE OF CONDUCT.
Coaches that do not up hold these standards will be subject to peneatlies, up to and including being removed from their coaching posisiton.
Team assignments are performed by Division Coordinators.
Assessments followed by team leveling draft* by coaches.
*With each division, player placement requests are less likely as this to allow the draft to be more based off the evaluation results.
Teams are drafted based on an evaluation assessment process. Division Coaches/Evaluators will assess the skill level of each player at an assessment day. Skills that are evaluated include: dribbling, layups, shooting, ball handling, height, and athleticism.
These evaluations determine each player's skill level and are not tryouts. ALL REGISTERED PLAYERS MAKE A TEAM!
Coaches in our Pee Wee program can request to coach with one another, or the Division Coordinators will assist with forming coaching staffs.
Anyone signing up to Head Coach in other divisions is eligible to select one Assistant Coach. We do not allow more than one Head Coach and one Assistant Coach to request to coach together.
Coach pairings are tentatively accepted until player evaluations are complete. At that time, we will assess the evaluation level of the coach's child. As long as pairing the two individuals together to coach would not create a "stacked" team by having their children play together, the pairing will be allowed.
As a player-focused youth recreational sports organization, each individual player is entitled to equitable playing time regardless of skill or "cost to winning." To facilitate this, the league requires the use of the Playing Matrix. This tool allows coaches to plan substitution patterns prior to the game to ensure playing time is equitably distributed to every player on the team. The Playing Matrix helps maintain fair play and consistent substitutions throughout the season.
