Little League Alberta District 3 - Codes of Conduct

The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflect these Six Pillars of Character.

Coaches Code of Conduct

  1. I will ensure to the best of my abilities that my players are in a safe and healthy environment.
  2. I will demonstrate the highest degree of respect for the rules of the game of baseball and principles of Little League Alberta District 3
  3. I will provide encouragement, positive support and care for each and every player on my team.
  4. I will promote good sportsmanship[ and demand respect for all umpires, teammates, opponents, coaches and parents.  This applies to every game, practice and league events.
  5. I will encourage all athletes to do their absolute best and have fun doing it.
  6. I will demonstrate positive leadership and encourage leadership from the players at all levels of play.
  7. I will strive to build every athlete’s self-esteem and self-confidence by providing them with opportunities to develop their skills, attitude and knowledge.
  8. I will organize to the best of my ability regular team practices and deliver proper instruction in a manner that assists all players in achieving their highest potential in baseball.
  9. I will ensure that all players are treated with equality and receive fair playing time.  Little League is not about the elite player; it's about getting everyone involved as part of a team and developing the skills of all players on the team.
  10. I will solicit feedback from players and families early in the season and often, and encourage the team to define their own goals; not just the coaches.
  11. I will remember that “winning isn’t everything”. A child’s emotional and physical well being, having fun, improving skills, making friends, and giving one’s complete effort are equally important.
  12. I will refrain from using foul or abusive language and, furthermore, will not accept the use of foul or abusive language from other members of the coaching staff, parents or players.
  13. I will demand a drug, alcohol and tobacco-free sports environment for my players and that all members of the coaching staff will refrain from their use at all Little League games and practices.  I will report any violations directly to the League President or District Administrator.
  14. I agree to be trained in the responsibilities of being a Little League Coach, including attending all coaches meetings and mandatory training clinics that are applicable, regardless of my past experience with baseball.
  15. I will never discriminate based on gender, race, religion, national origin, socio-economic class or any other group affiliation.
  16. I understand that I am agreeing to abide by the values and assertions as laid out above.  I asl acknowledge that if my actions violate the code of conduct will result in an investigation by the League and may result in temporary or permanent suspension and/or termination of my coaching responsibilities with Little League

Parent Sport Code of Conduct

  1. I will not force my child to participate in sports
  2. I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.
  3. I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
  4. I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.
  5. I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.
  6. I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.
  7. I will not encourage any behaviours or practices that would endanger the health and well being of the athletes.
  8. I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  9. I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
  10. I will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.
  11. I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my child feel like a winner every time.
  12. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  13. I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning. I will also de-emphasize games and competition in the lower age groups.
  14. I will promote the emotional and physical well- being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.
  15. I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.
  16. I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.
  17. I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team. 

Player Code of Conduct


Player's responsibilities are simple; be respectful of others, be responsible, play fair, and always do your best, and always exhibit good sportsmanship

  1. As a Little League participant I hereby pledge that I will:  
  2. Encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players, coaches, officials, and parents.
  3. Be a team player and support my teammates.
  4. Be on time and attend every practice and game that I can, and will notify my coaches if I cannot.
  5. Work hard to improve my skills.
  6. Do my best to listen and learn from my coaches.
  7. Encourage my parents to be involved with my team and League in some capacity.
  8. Congratulate the other team after each game as a demonstration of sportsmanship.
  9. Refrain from using violence, unfriendly language, or insults to others.
  10. Be generous when I win and gracious when I lose.
  11. Obey the rules of the game and always work for the good of the team.
  12. Accept the decisions of the officials with grace and never challenge or question calls.  Refrain from challenging or questioning on-field calls by officials and/or managers and coaches.
  13. Conduct myself with honor and dignity.
  14. Applaud the efforts of my teammates and opponents.
