Volunteer Coaches
Our Wednesday foot skills sessions are run by seasoned professional coaches, and our Sunday games are officiated by PYFL staff. However, we can't do what we do without the help of our amazing parents who volunteer as assistant coaches. We encourage parents to join us on the court to lend an extra hand helping to keep kids organized.
How can you help as a volunteer coach?
Wednesdays
Emphasize & Praise.
- Greet players as they enter the court.
- Make sure players are in the right place, with their teammates.
- Redirect off-task behaviors and keep kids focused on activities.
- Emphasize coaching points identified by head coaches.
- Praise things kids do well.
Sundays
Organize & Rotate.
- Greet players as they enter the court.
- Make sure players are in the right place, with their teammates.
- Rotate players into the game on a schedule.
- It is rolling substitutions in futsal, so play does not need to be stopped in order to make a change.
- Consider the age of your players and how long they can stay focused and engaged on the sideline.
- A rotation that may least disrupt the flow of the game is 3-5 new players every 5 minutes.
- Our site coordinators / referees may also be encouraging substitutions.
