About PGCBGC
The Prince George's County Boys & Girls Club is a private, non-profit corporation incorporated under the statutes of the State of Maryland and is governed by a Board of Directors. The Club provides Prince George's County youth opportunities to participate in many activities sponsored and conducted by 33 member clubs located throughout the county.
The PGCBGC has a rich history dating back to 1939 when it was first established as the Prince George's County Police Boys Club. Originally focused on boys, the club expanded to include girls in the mid-1970s and changed its name to reflect this inclusion.
With approximately 10,000 members and over 3,000 volunteers, the Prince George's County Boys & Girls Club offers a wide range of programs including basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, cheerleading, track, and football. These programs aim to promote the health and welfare of the county's youth by providing supervised athletic and mentorship opportunities that emphasize good sportsmanship, citizenship, discipline, and cooperation.
The club has a long-standing partnership with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Prince George's County, and is overseen by the Executive Director's office, which operates out of the Sports, Health, and Wellness Division Office. Past Executive Directors, such as Reds Vernon and Joe Warren, have been instrumental in the club's growth and success, securing funding and support to ensure the club's continued impact on the community.
