HISTORY

The Wyndmoor Bantams was founded in 1954 by Bob Gould and his wife, Zelda Gould.  During the early 1960’s, the Bantams joined the Keystone State League (KSL), being one of eight founding members.  In 1978 the Springfield Township enforcement of a township ordinance that stipulated that fifty-one percent of the youth must reside in the township forced the Bantams to relocate to the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia (Germantown Avenue and Sedgwick Street).  The team was then named the Northwest Bantams.

In 1979, Sonny Carter became President of the organization.  His willingness to sacrifice his own personal finances saved the Bantams from folding.  In 1980, the team was renamed The Mt. Airy Bantams and over the years, the Bantams have received financial support from many supporters through fundraisers, concessions and community donations.

Throughout a phenomenal existence, the Bantams have achieved many accolades, including including multiple football championships. Additionally, the Bantams have had a superb cheerleading team for over 20 years.   Not only do the cheerleaders begin their season with the football players in August cheeering the teams on, but their season begins as the football season ends.  They compete in competitions both locally and nationally, and have finished in first place on multiple occaissions.

Many of the coaches, executive committee and board members have been a part of the Bantams for many years.  We are driven by teamwork and a family atmosphere.
