Tiny Tots – Creative Movement
Tiny Tots is a beginner class in ballet for children 4 years of age (as of December 31). It is an introduction to the joy of dance with emphasis on musicality, locomotive movement and the beginnings of posture and alignment. In this environment the students will explore creative movement and the fundamentals of ballet. This is a half hour class per week.
Pre-Primary Ballet and Primary Ballet
Pre-Primary Ballet and Primary Ballet are classes offered to teach the first forms of ballet movement and proper posture and alignment. This is a 45 minute class per week.
Grades 1 to 8 Ballet
Grades 1 to 8 Ballet teach students all of the fundamentals of Ballet. The Grade 1-3 ballet class is a 45 minute class per week. The Grades 4 to 8 ballet class is 1 hour of instruction per week.
Pointe Class
Pointe class is also offered in the higher grades of Ballet, at no additional cost.
Beginner Jazz
Beginner Jazz is an introduction to Jazz for 5 and 6 year olds. Students must also be registered in ballet to participate. Beginner Jazz is one class per week.
Jazz 1-5, Intermediate and Senior Jazz
For dancers 7 and up, Jazz 1-5, Intermediate and Senior Jazz teach the basics of jazz techniques with emphasis on strengthening exercises and floor combinations. Jazz 1 through to 5, Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate Jazz is a one 45 minute class per week. Senior Jazz is a one 1 hour class per week.
Tap
Tap teaches students 7 and up, rhythm tap techniques as well as traditional vocabulary leading up to complicated footwork with upper body choreography. All tap classes are a one 45 minute class per week.
Hip Hop Class
Hip Hop refers to street dance styles performed to hip hop music and encompasses a wide range of styles, such as breaking, popping and locking. Hip Hop is now open to all students who 7 years of age or over (They do not need to be in another discipline). Hip Hop classes are one session per week.
Parent and Tot Class
Parent and Tot classes are also offered in the fall, if there is enough interest.
Locations
Our studio upstairs in Melville City Hall, 430 Main Street, is where our Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop classes are held.
Our studio in the north wing of Melville Community Works, is where Tap, Ballet and Beginner Jazz classes are held.
As our students reach high school level, they may apply to use their dance as a credit toward completing their education. The Melville Dance Association also has an education fund in place for those wishing to attend summer dance camps. For more information, contact the Board.
Classes are not held on statutory holidays and during extended school breaks. Classes ARE held on Student-Free Days.
