Twenty former players and coaches return to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Grenadiers football.
Jake Magee, Matt McDonald, Chad Stymest and Phil McLean are just some of the former Kingston Grenadier players reuniting on the sidelines as coaches to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the football club.
“It’s like a family reunion,” says long-time President of the Kingston Grenadiers Football Club, Alexanddra Reyes-Walsh. “I couldn’t be more excited to see our former players come back as coaches and give back to the community's next generation of G-Men.” After finishing their playing careers with their respective university football teams, 14 former players have returned as coaching staff for the Kingston Grenadiers Football Club.
“They became friends for life right here on these local fields, despite competing against one another at the university level,” adds Reyes-Walsh.
They will be joined by their former Head Coaches, Mark Magee (U18) and Rick Miles (U16), who have also returned to the sidelines, after a 6 year hiatus, to mentor coaches and lead these teams to the 2024 Championships.
The Grenadiers home opener is set for this Saturday versus long-time rivals Myers Riders from Nepean. The U16 team will kick-off their season at 1 p.m. at Richardson Stadium and will be immediately followed by the U18 football game. The U18 team opened their season last weekend on the road with a 48-19 victory in Brampton.
The Kingston Grenadiers Club is a AAA football team. Founded in 2004, the team is part of the Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) travelling from Ottawa to Windsor. The Club is also a member of Football Ontario and Football Canada. Over the past 20 years the Kingston Grenadiers has produced over 200 university level football players. Of those, 17 players have been drafted to the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the National Football League (NFL)
In addition to learning, playing, and enjoying football at the highest level of youth amateur competition, our emphasis will always be placed on sportsmanship, self discipline, teamwork, academic achievement and community involvement.
