TYSA MINOR DIVISION PROVES THAT TEAMWORK IS THE WINNING FORMULA

News Image

“It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.-Dominic Toretto

Amazingly it has been over 20 years now but if you rewind past all the space cars, bank heists, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson beat downs and multiple death-not deaths of the main characters and go back to the beginning, it’s ole Dom himself that uttered the classic line above and in the timeframe between our last elegantly written recap and now, our TYSA Minor Division Fall teams decided to put their own spin on the above truth. A total of 4 runs, FOUR, would be the difference in our three most recent games. All of them classics, with outstanding team performances and several individual standout performances as well.

Since I’m sure you’re already thinking to yourself, please just get to the recap and quit adding more and more words, I will do exactly that and call up the …….

RECAP!

Monday, Sept. 25th

LITTLE HUGO’S v. SENECA EAST

Monday’s game would actually prove to be the most “lopsided” of the week, what with the massive 2 run difference as Little Hugo’s would outlast Seneca East 7-5.

Hugo’s would get the very well earned and deserved victory on this night but the hero of the game was Seneca East’s Harrison Aichholz who just (hold on, I have to find a more appropriate word then blasted) ANNIHILATED two pitches that he sent OVER the outfield wall for homeruns. That’s right he hit two of them, resulting in 3 RBI. Harrison wasn’t alone though as Josef Cholodewitsch continued his hot hitting as he collected a double. Trent Porter had an RBI and a single. Tyler Dick and Kameron Mohr would add singles and Keiran Mohr would collect an RBI.

In the end though Hugo’s used a collective effort of it’s own to plate the 7 runs and get the victory. Led by Chase Alafita and his 2 singles and a double along with 2 RBI. He would be joined by Dylan Shutt and Lucian Brown (2 RBI) who got singles. Lotus Patrick and Carson Steinmetz would produce RBI’s for the Hugo’s team as well.

For Hugo’s it was the usual suspects providing the fireworks on the mound as Chance McCrory led the charge with 6 strikeouts and Harmon Gill would provide the relief with 4 more of his own.

TUESDAY, SEPT 26th

LITTLE HUGO’S v. PERKINS PRO LAWN CARE

Tuesday night would see Hugo’s at it once again, this time though ending up on the wrong end of a 3-2 dogfight of a decision. This game was an instant classic and the epitome of a pitcher’s duel in every sense of the word. A victory that Perkins Lawn Care worked their butts off for and earned.

Little Hugo’s would jump out to an early 2-1 lead after one inning and from there just 2 more runs would be scored all game, both by Perkins Lawn Care.

Perkins Lawn Care  knocked out 6 hits on the evening, with Kaiden Picciuto leading the way with a double and also what would be the winning Inside the Park homerun! Jackson Sturgill would add 2 singles of his own and Bentley Vassalle (RBI) and Nickolai Stone (RBI) adding singles to the team effort.

On the mound for Perkins Lawn Care  it was Picciuto (6 strikeouts) and Sturgill (8 strikeouts) holding Hugo’s in check by giving up just 4 hits and those 2 early runs, matter of fact it seemed that only one thing could crack the Perkins pitching staff………

And his name is Harmon Gill (yeah you’re going to have to endure a proud dad moment here for a moment).

Gill would collect all four hits for Hugo’s. He ended the day with 3 doubles AND a triple. He would also collect both of the RBI’s for Hugo’s and for good measure he would add 7 strikeouts on the mound to combine with Chance McCrory (6 K’s) for 13 total punchouts. Unfortunately for Little Hugo’s, just like for Seneca East the night before, huge individual performances couldn’t quiet translate to a victory.

THURSDAY, SEPT 28st  (played SUNDAY, OCT 1st)

SENECA EAST v. PERKINS LAWN CARE

First of all I want to use this space to thank each and every one of the coaches for the effort that was put into trying to get our field ready to play after the late rain shower. They put in a great deal of time and effort and that didn’t go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated but even after all that effort, the field conditions just were not going to be safe enough to put our players out on the field. All of us here with the league appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience on Thursday. The weather pushed this game back to the rare Sunday matinee matchup and boy did these two teams make it worth the wait.

Seneca East and Perkins Lawn Care would battle for all 6 innings, ultimately ending in Seneca East walking it off with an inside the park homerun from Josef Cholodewitsch!

Seneca East’s Ryder Bordner led the way with 3 singles and an RBI. Harrison Aichholz (2 RBI) and Trent Porter added a double apiece. Kadin Elswick would also smack a single to help the Seneca East offense.

Perkins Lawn Care would plate all four of their runs in the first three innings, building a 4-2 lead after the third inning. Kaiden Picciuto would lead the Perkins offense with a double and a single while driving in 2 RBI. Wyatt Comer would also add a single.

Seneca East would log 12 strikeouts from their pitchers with Aichholz (7 K’s) and Porter (5 K’s) just outdueling the 11 combined strikeouts from Perkins’ Picciuto (6 K’s) and Jackson Sturgill (5 K’s) in a classic game with an instant classic finish.

I know all of you are probably eyeing up the standing below and wondering the inevitable question………….what would happen if Perkins Lawn Care  manages to win both the games next week and everyone ends up tied at 4-4, it’s a very, VERY real possibility.

Normally the next tiebreaker would be record against each other. If that ends up not helping anything it would go to run differential to decide the seeding. If somehow that doesn’t break the tie then I’m going to be brutally honest with you, I’m not entirely sure what the next step would be. With that being said we are working behind the scenes to figure all of that out just in case it comes down to it. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for the latest updates.
