MINOR DIVISION SEES ALL TEAMS VICTORIOUS IN WEEK 2

News Image

“Business is about to pick up”    - Jim Ross, Former WWE announcer

If you were around in the mid to late 90’s (yeah, yeah I’m dating myself here) and you heard this famed line on a Monday or Thursday Night, you instantly knew something crazy was about to go down, and not just the normal pro wrestling crazy but the kind of crazy that brought out a Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock or Triple H.

This past week down at Oakley Park the TYSA Minor Division Fall baseball league might as well have had the great Jim Ross sitting field side because business got CRAZY!

….and we aren’t going to wait any longer, let’s get right to it:

Monday, Sept. 18th

PERKINS LAWN CARE v. SENECA EAST

The Minor Division did not wait long to get the excitement started, Perkins Lawn Care and Seneca East EXPLODED for 21 total runs finally ending with a 11-10 Seneca East victory.

Perkins ran out of the gate as they grabbed 9 runs in the first 2 innings, highlighted by a GRAND SLAM BLAST from the bat of Jackson Sturgill that ended up landing somewhere on SR 53.

Seneca East though kept themselves in it scoring 5 runs of their own in the first two innings before adding 1 in the third and 4 in the fourth and a final run in the fifth before holding off Perkins who would fight to the end but could only push 1 run across in the last inning.

Sturgill would end the night with a single to add to his homerun and a total of 6 RBI. He would also add 6 strikeouts off the mound. Kaiden Picciuto would add a double and 2 RBI and strike out 4 batters on his own. Nikolai Stone had a single. Anastasia Borer and Reid Hohman added an RBI each.

For Seneca East, Josef Cholodewitsch led the way with 2 doubles, 2 singles and an RBI. Harrison Aichholz used his double and a single to help produce 4 RBI. Ryder Bordner added 2 RBI on a single and double. Levin Martin also had a single and double and an RBI. Kaiden Elswick, Tyler Dick (RBI) and Keiran Mohr (RBI) added singles and Braxton Baldosser had an RBI.

For the record, rumors that New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman has contacted Jackson Sturgill to possible hit behind Aaron Judge next year as well as offering multiple other Perkin’s players is completely unfounded and cannot be confirmed. Also, the rumor that the Oakland Athletics owner has offered unlimited Ecto Cooler Hi-C drinks and EL Fudge cookies to get the whole Seneca East team to come play for Oakland next year is also unfounded and completely unconfirmed.

TUESDAY, SEPT 19th

LITTLE HUGO’S v. SENECA EAST

Less than 24 hours after the heart stopping excitement that was the TYSA Minor Division game on Monday, Little Hugo’s and Seneca East looked at everyone and said, “hold my Lime Cucumber Gatorade.” This one went down to the last inning in a wild affair that was more a pitchers duel. A duel that Hugo’s would hang on to win 4-3 behind the slick pitching of Chance McCory and his 7 strikeouts and the finishing kick from Harmon Gill to secure the victory.

McCrory would help himself out with a single and 2 RBI on the offensive end and be backed by Liam Brown who had a double and a single and an RBI and Emma Hurst who also had an RBI.

Seneca East brought the offense as well on Tuesday. Trent Porter (1B, 2B), Kameron Mohr (2 Singles, RBI), and Ryder Bordner (2 Singles, RBI) produced multi-hit games. Levin Martin (1B), Harrison Aichholz (1B), Kadin Elswick (1B) and Josef Cholodewitsch (3B) also added hits. Finally Tyler Dick would help the offense with an RBI.

Again in answer to any questions about the rumors that the Detroit Tigers have reached out to both teams to ask about the availability of certain pitchers is completely invalid.

THURSDAY, SEPT 21st

LITTLE HUGO’S v. PERKINS LAWN CARE

Finally, we come to the Thursday night game. Perkins coming in off the back of an incredible performance that came up just short against the Little Hugo’s team who also put up an amazing show holding off Seneca East earlier this week. Thursday they clashed in a matchup that lived up to the hype machine. A back and forth affair that seen Hugo’s jump out to an early 5-2 lead after 2 innings before Perkins came back with 2 in the third and then a HUGE 4 run outburst in the 5th to finally get the lead, while their pitching shut down the Hugo’s offensive attack to the tune of 1 run in the sixth inning, finally leading to an 8-6 victory for Perkins Lawn Care, their FIRST of the season after so many incredibly close calls to open the season.

Even with all the runs scored, this game would also be a showcase of pitchers as both teams would produce 13 strikeouts each. Kaiden Picciuto (6 K) and Jackson Sturgill (7 K) would be the ones to get job the done just a little bit better on this night. Harmon Gill (7 K) and Chance McCrory (6 K) would still match them strike for strike.

For Perkins, Picciuto absolutely rocketed a single and added a double to drive in 4 runs. Sturgill was right there with a double of his own and an RBI. Wyatt Comer unloaded 2 doubles of his own and Harrison Church would drive a double into the gap and get an RBI. Nikolai Stone and Reid Hohman would add an RBI each.

It was a bit of a tale of two halves. Early on Little Hugo’s were the ones stringing together the hits and baserunners and scoring runs, Perkins would calm that down and turn the tables later to secure the win.

Hugo’s was led offensively by 2 singles and 2 RBI from Liam Brown as well as 2 singles from Dylan Shutt who drove in 2 runs of his own. Finally, Gill would help himself out with a big double to the fence and 2 RBI.

As we head into our final homestretch of the season (I know crazy right?), the games are getting crazier, the teams getting so much better and everything is getting incredibly competitive for that all important number one seed for our postseason tournament.

Our tournament will be a single elimination tournament. The #2 seed will play the #3 seed (date to be determined) and then the winner will compete with our #1 seed for our TYSA Minor Division Fall Ball Championship (I’ve really got to figure out something less wordy).

As you will see below the standings are tighter than the knots in Harmon Gill’s shoes…..wait, what? He’s the one always having to tie his shoes? Oh, never mind then.

Anywho, just for reference, if there would be a tie in the standings, the first tiebreaker will be head to head record, after that it would go to run differential. After that maybe rock, paper, scissors or one of those races in the big bubble balls or something.
