Slow Pitch Rules

Game Length -Games will run 7 innings or 1 ½ hrs. with no inning beginning after 6:45 pm. However, if teams want to play out the entire 7 Innings past 6:45 pm, they can do so if it is                 mutually agreed upon by both teams.

  •    A mercy rule shall be imposed if, after five full innings of play, one team leads another by 15 runs or more; the game will be called.
  •                            However, if a mercy rule is imposed, the winner is determined but teams can continue to play the full 7 innings for fun if they wish.
  • A team may only score a maximum of 7 runs per inning.
  • 10 Batter Rule – An inning will end if all 10 batters reach the plate, regardless of the current number of outs.
Once the batting order is set it cannot be changed unless you are replacing a batter.
When the 10th batter makes a hit, and there are runners on base you may tag any runner out to end the play. If the batter hits a home run, the run counts, but the batter is out                      when the play is finished. Even if no one is tagged out, the inning is over, and the batting team will take the field.

Pitching - The ball must be pitched underhand and should reach a height between 6 to 12 feet from the ground.

  • No Pitch Rule – if the pitch doesn’t adhere to specifications, a no-pitch call can be made. The call must be made when the ball is in the air. The play is then dead and will continue from where it was before the No Pitch call was made.
  • Any pitch that lands on home plate is considered a strike.

Bases and Field - The bases are usually 60 to 65 feet apart, and the distance from the pitcher's mound to home plate is about 50 feet.

  •   Base runners must tag up if the ball is caught in the air before advancing to the next base. Runners are allowed to advance one base in this circumstance.
  •    Stealing bases and leading off is illegal.
  •  Sliding into any base is an automatic out.
  •    If the first base player blocks or interferes with the runner's ability to touch the base, the runner will automatically advance to 2nd base.
  •   The runner doesn’t have to touch home plate, they must run behind home plate for a run to count. However, an out can still be played at home plate. The person calling the pitches must make a judgment call to determine if the player passed behind home plate before the catcher tagged it.

Teams - There must be 10 players on the field at all times.

  • If you are short of a few players, you may borrow from the other team if they agree.
  • A minimum of 3 of the 10 players on the field must be of the opposite sex and must be staggered evenly in the batting order.

Batting Each Batter starts with a count of 0 balls and 0 strikes. The strike zone is from the shoulders to the knees of the batter as they stand at home plate.

  • A foul on a 3rd strike is an out.
  • If a foul ball is caught, it is an automatic out except in one circumstance.
  • When a foul tip is below the batter's head but caught by the catcher it is not an out.
  • If the foul tip is above the batter’s head and caught by the catcher, it is an out.
Away team bats first. The schedule will indicate who is the home team.
