code of conduct

This Code of Conduct applies to all Island Hoops Basketball Society programs and on all Island Hoops Basketball Society online platforms.

Players, coaches, officials, organizers, volunteers, and anyone they invite or bring with them (hereinafter referred to as “Attendees”) commit to upholding Island Hoops Basketball Society's ("IHBS") values of supporting physical, mental, emotional, and cultural well-being.

  1. Attendees will engage in controlled physical contact within the rules of the game, when safe and when appropriate, and will avoid dangerous or excessively risky plays.
  2. Attendees will not show up impaired or bring alcohol or cannabis to our programs.
  3. Attendees will not engage in harassing behaviour towards other Attendees. Harassing behaviour includes but is not limited to name calling or trash-talking, yelling, or physical assault, and may occur online, in person or anywhere else.
  4. Attendees will not express any forms of racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of bigotry at IHBS programs or on any IHBS online platform.
  5. IHBS strives to create an environment free of colonialist language, gender norms and other constructs that harm marginalized groups. Attendees are expected to make good-faith efforts to support this environment.

Attendees who do not abide by this Code of Conduct at Island Hoops Basketball Society’s programs will be told to leave without compensation, refund or reimbursement.
