goalie development

IDCMHA is proud to emphasize development opportunities for all players and goalies across our association. For 2026-2027, the on-ice instruction will be provided by Byron Spriggs from Spriggs Goaltending. Goalie development sessions are open to all IDCMHA players at any time during the season (equipment permitting).

OBJECTIVE:
Goalie Development provides an opportunity to introduce and advance skill development for new and experienced goalies, as well as for coaches to gain new insights and  experiences to apply to their own practices. Our goals are to:

  • Build foundational goalie skills and techniques throughout the season
  • Provide position-specific skill development
  • Offer guidance and support on equipment, training, techniques, drills, and overall goalie development

U9 PARENTS & COACHES:

  • U9 players are enouraged to rotate through the goalie position (Hockey Canada Pathway)
  • These development sessions are open to all players interested in goaltending to promote and build confidence in U9 players to try the position
  • IDCMHA encourages parents, players, and coaches to embrace the opportunity for players to try the position
  • Goalie equipment is provided to each team to use and there are extra sets available for those wanting to attend development sessions
  • Coordination across teams and players will help ensure that all players get a chance to try this position and participate in a development session

COST:
IDCMHA covers the cost of this programming for registered members.

SCHEDULE:
IDCMHA will manage and integrate these sessions throughout the season. Dates and times for development sessions will be communicated via TeamLinkt. Goalie Development is considered an additional session, outside of regular practices. If Goalie Development overlaps a team practice, the coaches and goalie shall manage accordingly.

FREQUENCY:
Goalie Development sessions are expected to occur approximately twice a month throughout the regular season.

Please contact the Development Coordinator if you have any questions!
