Game (and practice) Change Process

NEW PROCESS UPDATES FOR 2026/2027
Game changes resulting from adverse weather conditions are managed under a separate process on the Adverse Weather Conditions page.

GAME CHANGE REQUESTS

This year (2026) the City of Regina has rolled out an updated Ice Allocation policy.  The policy provides updated ice return dates as well as new fees, such as a No-Show fee.  To align with the policy, updates to HRI regulations (and process) have been made for the 2026-2027 season.
As always, you can review all HRI Regulations here

New Game Change Process:

8.10     Game cancellations will not be tolerated. The Home team must complete the applicable game change process outlined below for any regular season game. Effective the 2026-2027 season is the updated game change process is as follows:

1. Game changes for game dates including, and prior to December 31, shall be made and agreed to between the impacted teams, utilizing the assigned or net new ice (secured independently by the teams). o It is recommended to swap games with other teams in your respective division who have the same game format to best support ice utilization.

  • If utilizing net new ice secured independently of HRI, the Home Team will be responsible for the originally assigned ice; it may be swapped, used for practice or sold (to other HRI teams).
  • The Home team of these game changes must notify the HRI Scheduler at scheduling@hockeyregina.ca of the game change. This notification is critical to officials’ assignment and TeamLinkt updates.
  • Should the HRI Scheduler not be notified and the game does not proceed due to no officials or an inaccurate schedule, the game shall be forfeited by the Home Team at a score of 5-0 and not rescheduled.
  • At the time of notification, if the originally allocated ice has not been swapped or sold, it will be deemed allocated practice ice to the Home Team, subject to applicable cost and $125/Hour No Show fees if unused, until the HRI scheduler is notified otherwise.

2. Game changes for games on or after January 1 shall be made between November 15 to November 30 annually. In this time the Home Team may email a game change request to the HRI Scheduler at scheduling@hockeyregina.ca that outlines the game details (date, location, time), the Visiting team’s agreement to make a change and 3-5 agreed upon dates to reschedule to. These dates are not guaranteed but rather help expedite the process.

  • The HRI Scheduler shall make best efforts to accommodate submitted game change requests in this window. Not all requests may be accommodated due to ice availability, blackout dates, or other constraints. Should the request be unable to be accommodated, the game shall proceed in the originally allocated date, time and location.

3. Game changes being made after November 30 for any game date shall follow process 1 outlined above.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

8.11      Teams leaving HRI allocated practice times vacant will be fined the cost of the rental plus a $125/hour No Show Fee. Teams must ensure HRI allocated practices are utilized, swapped or sold (to other HRI teams).

8.12       If a team (or both teams) does not follow the game change procedure or chooses to participate in other events, rather than scheduled league games, the team(s) will be fined a Game Cancellation Fee of $250 dollars. If HRI is not notified within 24 hours of the start time of the game, the team will also be responsible for the cost of the on and off-ice Officials. If the ice is not used by either team, the team(s) will be charged the cost of the ice plus a $125/hour No Show fee. The incident will also be reported to the Discipline Committee who may suspend the coach(s) for a minimum of two games. Recurring suspensions may result in the coach(s) being suspended for the remainder of the season. The team no showing will record a forfeiture and the score recorded as 5-0. If both teams no show a game a 0-0 tie shall be assessed to both teams. Teams are encouraged not to schedule other activities during playoffs. HRI league and playoff games take precedence over all tournaments, team events and exhibition games.

PRACTICE CHANGES

All teams are responsible for all changes to their practice schedule. Practice ice cannot be returned to Hockey Regina.

For any practice changes, teams may:

  1. Trade ice times with another HRI team (both teams retain an ice session).
  2. Sell the ice time to another HRI team at a rate of $240/hr. HRI allocatd ice can only be sold to other HRI teams to maintain compliance with City of Regina permitting and insurance.

When this is completed email scheduling@hockeyregina.ca to advise of the change.  Advising of the change will ensure that both team’s TeamLinkt schedule and the arena are updated, to ensure the arena staff are aware and the appropriate team appears on the dressing room board.

Teams may also purchase practice ice on the Hockey Regina website here.  Any purchased ice will automatically create the practice event in your teams TeamLinkt app (as a team scheduled event).

If you have any questions regarding these process updates or ice scheduling in general, email Darren, HRI's Scheduling Manager, at scheduling@hockeyregina.ca.
