FAQs for 2026 season

When is Spring registration?
Registration for the spring season begins on January 1st and ends in March.

When is Fall Registration?
Registration for the fall season begins in May and ends in July.

What is Fall Ball?
Fall Ball is an instructional and developmental softball season that runs from August through October. It’s a great way for players to continue improving their skills in a more relaxed, low-pressure environment. Games are still played with umpires, teams, and trophies, but the primary focus is learning and growth.

  • For returning players: We try to keep Spring teams together in the Fall whenever possible. If there are not enough returning players from a team, your player will be placed on a new team. At that time, you can decide whether to purchase a new jersey or reuse your Spring jersey.

  • For new players: Fall is a great entry point for those who want to try softball before the Spring season.

What is the schedule like?
Games are usually scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with make-up games scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There may be 1 to 2 Saturdays available for games during the season. Our Spring season will begin on April 25th, 2026, and continue until the middle of June. Our fall season will start in August and end in October.

When do practices begin?
Practices are scheduled twice a week from Monday to Friday, starting on the week of April 6th, 2026, and ending at the end of April. Practices for the fall season will begin at the beginning of August.

What all comes with my registration?
The cost of your registration includes a jersey and a pair of socks.

What equipment does my child need?
While the league provides jerseys, socks, and a trophy, players should come prepared with the following:

  • Glove
  • Softball pants (color will be communicated by the coach)
  • Bat
  • Helmet with a face guard
  • Cleats (rubber cleats preferred - no metal)
  • Fielding mask

Can my child play if they're new to softball?
Absolutely! Coaches focus on development, and players learn the fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting, and game rules in a supportive environment.

Where are the softball fields located?
Our fields are located at 700 Sawmill Road, New Whiteland, IN 46184. They are behind the old Sawmill Woods Elementary School.

Why do coaches and board members require a background check?
We enforce background checks to ensure the protection and safety of all of the children who have signed up to play at GWGSL.

Can I request a player to be on a team with a certain player or coach?
While we do our best to accommodate these requests, they will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, but no promises can be made due to players being drafted by coaches.

What is a draft?
After the evaluations, all players except Peewee will be assigned to a team based on the coach's evaluation.

What does the evaluation look like?
Evaluations will be held for all players, except Peewee, to measure their skills. Coaches will take notes during the evaluation process to use during the draft period.

Do you allow pets on the property?
During games and practices, we DO NOT allow any pets unless they are service animals with credentials

Need Financial Assistance?
We understand that the cost of sports can be a challenge. That's why we've partnered with Dick's Sporting Goods to offer financial assitance through Every Kid Sports. If you need support, you can apply for assistance here.

What duties are expected of a board member?
We meet in person once a month for our board meetings to discuss various topics surrounding the league. We also have our board members work 2-3 nights during the season to be the director on duty during a game night to help resolve any issues that may arise. Other than that, we are always looking for more volunteers to step up and help make this league the best it can be for the girls. If you are interested, click here and let us know!
