Ceiba Marlins

Head Coach Steve Sankar

With a strong foundation in competitive soccer, Coach Sankar brings a unique, player-centered approach to flag football coaching. A former soccer player through 2000, he competed at the collegiate level with the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico soccer team (1990–1991) and participated in multiple travel team programs, developing a deep understanding of teamwork, field vision, spacing, and tactical discipline.

These core soccer principles translate naturally to flag football—route timing, spatial awareness, defensive angles, and communication—and form the backbone of his coaching philosophy.

As a USA Football–certified coach (2025), Coach Sankar has coached athletes across all divisions, helping several players earn the honor of representing Puerto Rico in international competition. His coaching style emphasizes player development, confidence, and long-term growth, always placing the athlete first.

Known for his empathetic and instructional leadership, Coach Sankar intentionally separates himself from aggressive, fear-based coaching methods. Instead of shouting from the sidelines, he focuses on teaching, trust, accountability, and respect, creating an environment where players feel safe to learn, compete, and excel—both on and off the field.

This military background is the heartbeat of the Hornets, ensuring our players learn the value of structure, accountability, and resilience. Luquillo Soles

Head Coach David Garcia
Coach Frank Toutloff
I've had the privilege of coaching flag football for the Luquillo Soles for two seasons, working alongside Coach David Garcia to develop young athletes and build competitive teams. Our collaboration reached a peak when we led our 10U  team to victory at the Grinch Tournament in San Juan this past January, a testament to the hard work, dedication, and teamwork we've instilled in our players.

When I'm not coaching or reffing games, you'll find me on the field with my camera, capturing every moment of my son Frankie Toutloff and daughter Grace Toutloff as they play. Coaching with the Soles has been an incredibly rewarding experience, allowing me to share my passion for the game while watching these young athletes grow both on and off the field.

In 2026, I'm super excited for Luquillo to have their very first all- girls teams.  I know they will be well focused and play hard - adding some much needed new competition for our female league teams.
