Stephen Mullin Memorial Scholarship

What does this scholarship mean to you?

To me, this scholarship exemplifies my dedication to excellence. Receiving this scholarship and its financial support will help me as I continue to push for my goals. It reminds me that football has supported me in more ways than just the sport. That even once I'm done competing in the sport, it is still facilitating my success in more ways than I know..

How has football impacted your life?

When I started playing football in grade 10 with the GMFA Royals, I was just trying it out with no real hope for success. Little did I know this sport would change my athletic career as I know it. The lifelong friendships I developed in my football career have changed my life both in and outside of football. The lessons I learned helped me choose my career path and help me along my high school journey. Without football, I wouldn't be the leader I am in my community today.

Has football taught you any lessons that you will apply to your upcoming University adventure?

Football taught me valuable skills such as determination, leadership, and teamwork. The skills have already helped me become a better person in my community, and I know will facilitate my success in the future as I pursue a career in medicine. I'm excited to use the lessons I learned with football to lead and collaborate with my classmates. The interpersonal skills I learned from football are extremely beneficial for my medical school application process, for communication is key as a doctor.

How has football impacted your life?

Playing football has been the best decision I’ve ever made. Over the past 4 years I have fallen more in love every day. This sport and my coaches along the way have had huge impact on the person, athlete, student, and leader I have become. It has taught me accountability, sportsmanship, leadership, how to face adversity, and much much more. I’ve made some of my closest friends from this sport because to me football really is family.

Has football taught you any lessons that you will apply to your upcoming University adventure?

Throughout my years I have learned countless things from the sport of football. But one in particular comes to mind that I will carry with me through my future post secondary adventures. That being that if you put your head down and work for it, you can achieve just about anything you set your mind too. Just gotta trust the process, something I can remember while playing my first university football season and my classes.
