Important Update: 2026 Registration Process Changes

Hello South Shore Sabres Family,

We are excited for the upcoming season and we wanted to take a moment to reach out to our families about some changes and what to expect this season.

Beginning next season (2026), all players will be required to register with South Shore Sabres in their home community rather than join our neighbouring organization, Lumsden Cubs.  This change is in part of a larger effort between our two communities to support fair team formation, strengthen local programs, and ensure every community has the opportunity to build strong and sustainable baseball experience for its players.  Your board has worked close with Lumsden Cubs over this last season.  We reached out to learn how their ball association is organized, how the board supports its coaches, athletes, and families.   We are excited to see South Shore Sabres build a ball program that matches Lumsden Cubs Ball with their support. Please be aware families who do try to register in Lumsden will be advised and redirected to South Shore Sabres.

South Shore Sabres intends to have an A team for U11 baseball.  We are also contracting an outside party for evaluations this year so we can evenly build our teams.  Families are welcome to try out for AA through Lumsden, as South Shore Sabres will not house a AA team.  However, if the athlete does not make the AA team for Lumsden, they will be redirected back to their home community and be advised to play with South Shore Sabres.

While this may be a shift from previous years, we’re genuinely enthusiastic about what it means for our families and athletes.  Registering locally helps our local ball:

  • Build balanced teams with players who live and play together
  • Increase access to volunteers, coaches and development opportunities
  • Foster hometown pride
  • Create clear pathways for skill development within each community

Most importantly, it helps us continue making baseball a positive, inclusive, and well supported sport for every child in our community.  If you have questions about registration, or how these changes impact your athlete, please do not hesitate to reach out to your board.

Thank you for being such an important part of our baseball family.  We’re genuinely excited to see our baseball community grow stronger than ever.

Sincerely,

SSBA Executive
