I haven't played baseball in a long time / I have never played baseball. Can I still join? Yes, absolutely! Sacball is a casual league for all skill levels. There will be experienced captains and most players in the league previously played at some level and can help new players.
What is the pitching like? Sacball is a pitch to contact league with a goal of putting every pitch in play. There's no hard and fast rule about pitch speed, but the general idea is to consider how hard you throw when playing catch with a teammate-that's the goal. Strikeouts are boring! More action is more fun and keeps the game flowing.
Can I throw junk pitches? If you can put it in the zone, heck yeah.
How are positions on the field picked? Players dictate their own playing time and positions. Everyone is encouraged to play new positions and rotate in and out as needed. Captains can help resolve any disputes, but it's never been an issue in the past. Sacball is the perfect time to try a new position in a relaxed environment.
What if I make an error / drop a ball / make a mistake? Mistakes are part of the game. If you make an effort and try your best, you've succeeded. Even the big leaguers make mistakes!
What equipment do I need? At a minimum, each player needs closed toe athletic shoes (cleats are fine), a glove, a wood bat, and a batting helmet.
Does the league have any catcher's gear I can use? Yes, a full adult set, including both a traditional mask and a modern hockey style helmet.
Which team will I be on? Will I be a Stomper or a Slamon? Teams are picked before each game schoolyard draft style. Every week we form new teams and get a new chance to play with all the other players.
I can't make every game. Can I still register? Yes, the league is very flexible with player counts.
Registration
How old do I have to be? 18+ as of May 5, 2026.
How much does it cost to play? A 16-game season is $99, which breaks down to ~$6 per game. That covers field rentals, insurance, new balls every game, catcher's equipment, and a t-shirt. Considering the rising cost of, well, everything, that's pretty cheap.
Do I need to buy a uniform? No, there is no uniform cost. Closed-toe shoes are required but feel free to wear whatever athletic gear in which you feel comfortable playing. Baseball jerseys of your favorite teams are OK! Baseball pants are recommended but not required.
