NDAHA Team North Dakota Tier 1 Hockey was established prior to the 2015-2016 Hockey season and included Youth teams at 14U, 16U, and 18U, and Girls teams at 14U.    Beginning in the 2016-2017 season, USA Hockey and Team North Dakota added a 15 Only classification, and in the 2023-2024 season, USA Hockey added a 13 Only classification.   NDAHA began also rostering Tier 2 teams under the Team North Dakota umbrella in the 2016-2017 season with a 14U Youth Tier 2 team, added 14U Girls Tier 2 in 2021-2022 season, a Youth 18U High Performance team in 2022-2023, and Youth and Girls 16U teams in the 2023-2024 season.  NDAHA's Team ND program has grown from 5 teams to 13 teams in the 10 years of its existence.

Team North Dakota is overseen by the North Dakota Amateur Hockey Association's Player Development Committee.   Team North Dakota is run as a fall/spring program which allows players to compete in the fall and then return to their home associations/high school teams.  Teams begin in August of each year until approximately Halloween, and then get back together in March through the USA Hockey National Championships.
