Join Our Team: Ice Hockey Coaches & Volunteers Needed!

Help Shape the Next Generation of Hockey Players

Our ice hockey program is growing, and we need passionate individuals to help guide our young athletes on and off the ice. Whether you're a former player, current enthusiast, or simply someone who loves working with youth, we have opportunities that match your skills and availability.

What We're Looking For

Head Coaches & Assistant Coaches

  • Lead practice sessions and game strategies
  • Mentor players in skill development and sportsmanship
  • Communicate with parents and coordinate with other coaches

Practice Volunteers

  • Assist with on-ice drills and skill stations
  • Help with equipment setup and organization
  • Support coaches during practices and games

Requirements for All Volunteers

To ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, every volunteer and coach must complete the following requirements before beginning their role:

1. VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK (VSC)

All volunteers and coaches working with minors must obtain a current Vulnerable Sector Check ( https://www.tps.ca/services/police-record-checks/ ) through their local police service. This background check must be:

  • Completed within the past 24 months
  • Specific to vulnerable populations (children)
  • Submitted before volunteer activities begin

Requirements for Coaches

1. RESPECT IN SPORT TRAINING

All coaches must complete the Respect in Sport program ( https://gthl.respectgroupinc.com/ ):

  • Creating safe and inclusive environments
  • Recognizing and preventing abuse, harassment, and bullying
  • Understanding appropriate boundaries in sport
  • Responding to concerning situations

2. GENDER IDENTITY & EXPRESSION TRAINING

To ensure our program is welcoming and inclusive for all participants, all coaches must complete training ( https://page.spordle.com/ohf/clinics/1f03d6fe-3be2-6eea-807e-0283fb345b55 ):

  • Understanding gender identity and expression
  • Creating supportive environments for all athletes
  • Appropriate language and communication
  • Respectful policies and practices

3. BEHIND THE BENCH CERTIFICATES

Depending on the role you will be filing it may require other specific certificates from Hockey Canada. The requirements will vary depending on the age of the youth as well as what specific role you will be filling and can be found here:  https://gthlcanada.com/bench-staff-requirements/

Time Commitment

  • Coaches: 1 practice and 1 game per week (seasonal commitment)
  • Practice Volunteers: Flexible scheduling, minimum 2 hours per week

  2. Begin Requirements: Start your Vulnerable Sector Check, Respect in Sport, and Gender Identity training. The sooner the better as VSC can take up to 8 weeks and there and to ensure you have enough time to complete the courses..
  3. Orientation Session: Attend our volunteer orientation to learn about our program( TBD )
  4.  Start Volunteering: Begin making a difference in young athletes' lives!
