Important Update: 2024-25 Evaluations

News Image

Hello Comet Families,

This year’s tryout schedule has been particularly challenging due to the task of securing enough ice time to evaluate 800+ athletes!

We’ve encountered difficulties in meeting all the regulations and deadlines across the divisions. A new Hockey Sask rule prohibits any Minor Hockey organization from beginning U9-U11 tryouts before September 20th. Additionally, as per Hockey Sask regulations, U13 AA tryouts can not start before September 17, with a deadline of September 27, U15 AA tryouts can not start before September 10, with a deadline of September 20, and U18 AA tryouts can also not start before September 10, with a deadline of September 20. Despite our best efforts to create a workable schedule with the ice available to us, it became clear that Hockey Sask would not approve it. To avoid sanctions such as disqualifications from provincials, head coach suspensions, and bans from tournaments, we took a step back to re-evaluate and revise the schedules in collaboration with SMHA, seeking a more suitable solution.

SMHA has reallocated some of their ice time for U9-U11, allowing the Comets Organization to comply with the necessary scheduling regulations.  We are also collaborating with SMHA to finalize the U13-U18 schedule to ensure it meets both our members’ needs and the regulatory requirements for each division.

As of now, the original schedules have been removed from our website. We will be working closely with SMHA over the coming days to finalize the adjustments and release the updated schedules.

We’ve heard your concerns regarding the original tryout dates scheduled over the long weekend. While we were working with the only option available, we hope this revised schedule will allow you to enjoy your long weekend!  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, especially for those who adjusted their travel plans and for any inconvenience or hardship this may cause.  We truly are sorry.

We thank you for your understanding.
