Update #1 from Commissioner Jay Zaslaw

News Image

Gentlemen,

The Board just met with Dave Burgoon, Rob Salazar and Ron Nebert City Commissioner.  The bottom line was reached immediately. The city will help us, as we start our own league.  Simply stated they are done with our complaining so they set us free.  This is a huge opportunity for us to do what we want.  There will be no imposed restrictions such as: Time limit or draft changes.  This process is complex and time consuming and we will need a corps of volunteers.  We could use some legal and banking  direction and organizational skills Also people with contacts and knowledge can be an immense help .  We will need to have a Board--with elected officers; a website; by-laws; help with the incorporation process--to make this work.  We call on you, the members of the New Smyrna Beach senior softball community, to make this gift work. You all have special skills that can help.  The sooner we get this going the sooner we will be our own viable entity.

In the spirit of this incredible opportunity, the city has canceled the upcoming season. this gives us a chance to accomplish the tasks necessary to attain our goal of a player-run league.  Refunds will be given to all players that paid, in the form of checks, mailed out when the City issues payments.. We realize some of you may want to play in the other league, but we have an alternative until we are ready.  We can use the fields at night, to practice or to organize our own pick-up league.  That way you all can continue playing. The playing schedule will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, based on interest.  If we get enough interest to form a pick-up league, we will have those nights to play.

Anyone that is willing to offer their effort and time to help us reach our goal please let me know.  The Board will meet with Wade to get a clearer picture of roles and needs and then we go to work.

Thank You All and we hope you all see the value in this effort and will stay and help.  Those of you that leave, we hope you all will return, when we are ready.

Jay Zaslaw
