Roller Hockey Lethbridge Announces Second Annual Season Wrap-Up Tournament and BBQ

News Image

Join us on June 22nd at the Labour Club for a special day as Roller Hockey Lethbridge (RHL) hosts its second annual Season Wrap-Up Tournament and BBQ. This year, the event carries a profound significance as we rename the tournament in memory of Derek Powell, a cherished supporter of roller hockey in Lethbridge.

Derek was instrumental in nurturing the growth of roller hockey in our community, playing a key role in its early days and inspiring many through his dedication and passion. His legacy will live on through this event, celebrating not just the sport but the spirit of camaraderie and community he truly loved. Learn more about Derek and his contributions by visiting his obituary here.

The day will be packed with excitement from 9 AM to 5 PM, featuring fun roller hockey action, the tournament welcomes RHL participants along with potentially visiting teams from the Alberta Minor Roller Hockey Association (ARMHRA) member leagues, as they come together to showcase their skills and compete for enjoyment. While the tournament format is still being finalized, participants can expect a day full of engaging competition and sportsmanship.

As part of our celebration, a BBQ will provide delicious food with burgers and hotdogs available for purchase. Like last year’s event, all youth athletes will enjoy their meals free of charge, ensuring that our younger participants are fueled and ready to enjoy the day.

Additionally, a 50/50 raffle will be held during the event, with proceeds going towards funding a future tile surface for our rink, enhancing the playing experience for all.

We are pleased to announce that this event is made possible through the generous funding provided by the City of Lethbridge. We extend our gratitude for their support in promoting sports and community activities in our area.

Stay tuned for more information on participant registration and tournament details, which will be made available through Ed de Bruin once the tournament framework has been established.

We look forward to celebrating another successful season of roller hockey with you. Bring your family and friends for a day full of fun, food, and the spirit of competition, all in honor of a truly remarkable individual, Derek Powell.
