WHY THE KMFL? WHY 37 YEARS STRONG?

The KMFL was founded in 1980 by a passionate group of local football supporters who wanted to give young athletes more opportunity to develop before high school—and that mission is still at the heart of everything we do today.

From day one, we’ve been a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven league, powered by a community that truly cares about kids, development, and the game of football.

Built on Community
Our title sponsor, the Kinsmen Club of Peterborough, has been with us since the very beginning. Ask any long-time Kinsmen member—they’ll proudly tell you:   “The KMFL was our baby.”

Where It All Started
We began with just four teams:
South Steelers | North Stars | East Eagles | West Chargers
Players were placed based on where they lived, and the league served athletes aged 11–13.

Growing the Game
As football grew, so did we:

  • 2004 – Expanded to include 10-year-olds
  • 2008 – Introduced two divisions:
                             Junior (8–10)
                            Senior (11–13)
    • Implemented our evaluation and draft system to ensure balanced teams
  • 2026 – Expanding to three divisions to align with the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, creating smaller rosters, more reps, and better development opportunities for every player

     Evolving with the Game
In 2014, we aligned more closely with Canadian Football, becoming:
    Argonauts | Ticats | Redblacks | Roughriders

     Provincial Recognition
In 2021, the KMFL proudly joined Football Ontario and Football Canada, strengthening our commitment to safe, structured, and high-quality football.

47 YEARS LATER… AND WE’RE JUST GETTING STARTED

Today, the KMFL continues to deliver:
    ✅ Player-first development
    ✅ More reps, more opportunity
    ✅ Strong community roots
✅ A place where athletes grow—on and off the field
