GAME FORMAT & RULES

We play by FIBA Rules with the following modifications:

Two 25-minute running time halves
  • Switch to stopped time for whistles in the last minute of play of the 1st half.
  • 5-minute half-time break.
  • Switch to stopped time for whistles and made baskets in the last two-minutes of play of the 2nd half.
Shot Clock
  • A 20-second shot clock will be verbally called out by the referee who is facing the score clock ONLY in the last two minutes of the 2nd half and OT periods.
Time Outs
  • Each team has three 1-minute time outs available.  One may be taken in the 1st half and two in the second half. If a time out is called during a running time portion of the game, running time will begin again immediately at the end of the time out.
Overtime Period
  • In the event of a tie game after regulation time, play will continue IMMEDIATELY (no intermission) with a 2-minute OT period with stopped time for whistles and made baskets as well as a 20-second shot clock.
  • Each team will have one BALL ADVANCE ONLY time out available.
FIBA Rules Reminders...
  • The 8-second back court count is fast... Get that ball up the floor!
  • If the shot clock is below 14-seconds, it resets back up to 14-seconds when fouls and violations occur and stay in the front court.

For the LOVE of the GAME!
We want everyone to have fun out there, including our officials!
Be playful, be cheeky, but make sure it is respectful.
If you have questions for our officials, feel free to ASK in a respectful manner and at an appropriate time. For example...

  • Saying "Come on ref... Didn't you see that?" to an official while the ball is in play is not the right type of question OR the right time.
  • Saying, "Hey ref, what did you see on that last play?" at a stoppage in play IS the right kind of question AND at the right time.
  • Saying, "Hey ref, I feel like #10 is (grabbing me, pushing on rebounds, holding me). Can you keep an eye out for it?" while there is a stoppage in play, while waiting to inbound a ball, on the arc during a free throw... Right questions. Right times.

Remember... If you get too cheeky, if you are offensive, or if you decide to just be downright rude to any offical, player or spectator... Our officials will gladly whack you with a Technical Foul to bring you back in line.

Get two Technical Fouls in the same game and you are done for that game. Compile three T's within the season... Miss the next game. Compile five T's... Miss another game. For every T-Foul after your fifth on the season, you will sit another game and we will be having a chat about whether this league is the right one for you to play in.

Extra scrutiny will also be paid to Unsportsmanlike Fouls that risk injury to another player. Such fouls have absolutel no place in our game and can lead to expulsion from a game, and even expulsion from the League depending on the severity of the act.

PLAY HARD - HAVE FUN - DON'T GET HURT!
